Advantages: Kai is besotted with her!
Disadvantages: Overpriced, made of rubber
Kai love, love, LOVES his Sophie, like seriously he is obsessed with this thing!! He really has taken such a liking to 'her' since he got her for his birthday last month and he brings her everywhere.. bath, bed, supermarket, doctors, you name it and she'll be there with Kai. She has lots of long legs and a long neck, so he can easily carry her around and although this isnt a small toy, it is very light.
She's now how we bribe him into going to bed, how we calm him down when he's mad and how we distract him if he's about to throw a tantrum. If I can see him getting upset, I'll just say to him "where is Sophie, Kai?" And he'll immediately start looking for her, babbling to himself as he does. Shes actually pretty hard to lose, as the toy itself is a good size and the colour scheme of the toy stands out from most of kais other toys. The reason I've decided to review Sophie is because she really is Kai's favourite toy ever, and he's insanely attached to her.
Take yesterday for example - we were in the shower, and as usual he was putting all of his toys from his beach bucket into the shower, but Sophie wasn't there. As soon as he realised that "she" was missing, he immediately began frantically looking for her. I got out of the shower and spent a good 5 minutes trying to find her, and when I did he was so happy!! He gave Sophie a good wash in the shower, caringly talking gibberish to her as he did, and that night, like all nights since 2 weeks ago he slept with her next to him.
Sophie was a present from a friend of mine, and I had assumed that because it is a rather basic, plasticky toy it was quite cheap.. it could actually almost be mistaken for a discount shop dog toy. It is actually about £15, which I wouldn't pay personally, so I'm glad that Kai received her as a gift!
Another reason I wouldn't have bought this myself other than it being overpriced is that Sophie is made from rubber, albeit natural rubber. Most of Kai's toys are wooden and Eco friendly, and I don't really like him having things like plastic and rubber around him or in his mouth, but it's a good quality toy and the rubber doesn't feel cheap & it's great that it is waterproof!
Kai is 12mo's and I thought that this toy would be too young for him (its a teether toy) but he has taken a real liking to it. Im not sure that I'd of let him play with it when he was tiny though, because the material is quite rigid and the toy is a bit bulky, however he loves it now and we have sent my friend a special thank you card for it - I can't get over how madly in love he is with this toy!
The toy does squeak, which makes me find the whole design of it even more odd (it is like a rubber chicken dog toy in giraffe form!) Kai actually doesn't like the squeak, but I'm sure that most babies will!
Summary: Wouldn't of bought this toy myself, but Kai is a big fan!
