Advantages: Great dipped in a dummy if baby likes the taste

I bought this from Boots at first and it colst £2.89, yet I later discovered Asda selling the same size bottle for just £1.55! It comes in a clear glass bottle with a white screw-on lid. The box it comes in is quite old-fashioned looking.

The real purpose of gripe water when giving it to babies is that it tends to quickly get them to bring up a big burp. In this sense it definately worked! However it was not enough to help a baby crippled with wind, because no matter how many burps he got up he still screamed in agony as he had colic. However where it was useful is that LO loved the taste (and a lot of my friends' babies did too) and often in a colicky meltdown the only thing that would soothe him was a dummy dipped in gripe wate. We did not find it hugely useful in relieving pain caused by trapped wind but it certainly provided comfort when distressed. It was also useful for helping to get water into him as he loved the taste so I would dilute some (just a tiny amount of gripe water in a lot of water) to give the water a 'flavour' and he would drink lots. This was especially useful when we went abroad as it helped get plenty of fluids into him. I went through 2 bottles a week of this stuff and always give a bottle as a present (among other gifts) to any expectant mummy friends.

Summary: Definately a bathroom cupboard staple for any new mummy
