Nuby Teething Blankie
by NUDUL
I am 50/50 on this blankie. I love the colours, the fabric, the fact that it crinkles and that Oliver can hold it himself and move it about. He can even get it to his mouth and get the bits in to chew on it but (yes I'm sorry there is a but) he sees it more as a toy and crinkles the fabric and plays with it rather than realising that ... he can chomp down on it to help soothe his teeth no matter how many times I have shown him how to do this and since we have been out and about today, even though we took the blankie with us, we reverted to the Nuby Gum-eez teether instead with some Calgel on it which worked wonders.
The things I like about this teether:
Oliver loves it.
It is fun, lovely and bright to look at, different textures to feel and a nice teddy face in the middle that squeaks.
Oliver can get it to his mouth himself.
All of the corners of the comforter have a teether bit on there so the fabric doesn't get sucked instead.
It can be used as a comforter as well, during sleepy times which Oliver likes to do.
It can be used from 3 months. (This is a point of confusion; the Nuby website has this product from 0+ months but when I received the product it stated on the packaging 3+ months. I would go with the 3+ months simply for the ability for the baby to be able to move the blankie around and get the teether bit in their mouth).
The price is good, even from the Nuby website it is only £4.99 and since the quality is very good I was happy to pay that.
Things I think bring it down from a 5 star product.
Oliver thinks it's a toy so it never really got used as a teether.
Overall, I would say 4 out of 5 stars. Oliver loves it but to play with, so we went back to the Gum-eez teether and that one seems to be looking likely to be the best one for Oliver * at the moment * but of course, this may change as he gets older and other teeth are coming through and he is more co-ordinated. ELC Activity Triangle
by ghoti
I bought this for my baby when I was helping at the NCT sale, and needed something to keep him busy. By the time I got to the end of the sale, I was a bit glazed over after looking at all the stuff, so I just grabbed something that looked vaguely appropriate and made a noise when I picked it up. I'm glad I did!
This toy is ... quite expensive new, but easy to pick up second hand, and as it's plastic, easy to clean and sterilise. Mine cost £1.50 second hand.
My son was seven months old when I bought it, and he was vaguely interested, but it mostly got interesting at about ten months. I think this would make an excellent first birthday present, because it's quite big, baby needs to be able to pick it up really.
Each end is an equilateral triangle, about 6 inches along the side, and the sides are squares. The framework is tubes with little beads, like a rainmaker, and that's what my son finds attractive about this toy. Each of the faces has a different activity, and that's what holds his attention. The variety is enough that lots of different children would find it interesting, whether they prefer beading (as my son) or sliding objects , along a track, spinning things or just looking at themselves in the mirror.
All the items do what they're meant to, move easily but don't slide around, so it's fun to play and doesn't get frustrating. All in all, a good toy which my son enjoys playing with. Read the complete review |

Vtech Sing and Discover Piano
by catrocks03
We got this when my son was around the 6 month mark. He loved it then and still does now although interacts with it in different ways. I think he'll definitly continue to enjoy it for the next 6 months (taking him up to 2 years).
It has a few different features
-A book with a spiral bind. The pages are quite sturdy and ... not hugely breakable.
- A chunky keyboards with 5 keys of different notes
- A microphone- You have to get quite close to it for it to amplify your voice. My son at the moment lieks to put it right to his mouth and just go "AHHHH" down it! It crackles quite a bit.
- A drum button which sets of a drum beat.
- 5 musical notes buttons which when pressed play different nursery rhymes.
- A dog. I dont really know his purpose, you just wiggle him around he woofs! This is fine by my son though as dogs are one of his favourite animals and he likes to point at it and say "dog" and imitate the woofing noise.
The keyboard also lights up, this was one of the things that had my son entranced when we first got it. Now i think he prefers the musical activity and the interactivity- he cant get enough of pushing the buttons.
Its a vtech toy, as a brand I love vtech we rarely find a toy by them we dont like although I do think they can be quite pricey! As Ive found with some other vtech toys the two volume options are both particuarly loud!
The toy takes 4xAA batteries which screw in at the back. The battery life for this toy is great, we dont use this toy everyday but my son is now 18 months and we havent yet had to change the batteries. They are in need of replacement though as in the last few days the toy will go a little slow or out of tune but for almost a years worth I think thats great.
You can get these from around £15 at Debenhams, they seem to be a bit pricier elsewhere. I think £15 is a good price but I dont think I'd want to may more but maybe I'm a little stingy!
However I like the variety of features and the chunky keys are great for little fingers. I would definitly reccomend as a Christmas present for your (or someone elses!) baby. Read the complete review |
