Brio 33712 Squiddo
by MrsWillow
I got this about a year ago for my daughters christmas present last year. I managed to get it for about £10 in Home Bargains (they often have a bit of Brio stuff in cheap so worth keeping an eye out if you have one near you).
The set consists of a soft squid with poseable legs and a zip mouth which stoes the 4 colouful 'fish' ... trains. The blue coloured track pieces form a circle when put together but you also get 2 end bits to ramp onto the floor so you can make other designs as well.
The final piece is a magnetic fishing rod style thing which attaches to the front of the fish to pull them along.
My daughter loves playing with the fish and feeding the squid to put them away, it took her a few months from getting it (she was 19months old last christmas and it is recommended from 18 months) to get the hang of putting the pieces of track together.
I was disappointed at the lack of a storage solution for the track pieces though.
The set is lovely quality, the fish and track are beautifully finished. The track pieces fit easily together. However, the magnetic fishing rod doesn't have a strong enough magnet and struggles to easily pull the full train of 4 fishes all at once. One at a times seems to be OK though. Brio 30323 Pull Along Duck
by Clareh83
Working in a nursery means I come across many different toys and this is one of the popular toys with the younger members of the group. Children in my experience all love ducks, feeding the ducks, looking at duck pictures, playing with ducks in the water and so we thought it would be nice for them to be able to play with a duck out of ... the water. This duck can be purchased from Amazon for around £10.
This pull along duck is made from wood and is suitable for children 12 months plus. My nursery is 2-5 years olds all based in one room and I would say it is mainly the 2-3 who will be found pulling it along saying 'come on duck' as the duck comes along behind them quacking to let them know he is still there on his big red wheels. As the duck moves he also flaps his wings and and moves his head which the children love. The finish to the duck is very bright nice yellow beak and wings which all help in attracting the children to play with him.
This duck has been pulled around inside and out and pulled between children as well as the fight over who is taking the duck a walk today. The pull cord has stayed strong through out and the duck is made to a high enough standard to with hold a bit of pulling. To servive in our nusery toys have to be well made and this toy certainly is.
I will give this little yellow duck 5 stars as he is able to withstand the trials of being a nursery toy. Read the complete review |

Brio 33712 Squiddo
by elbar1
My son received this as a christmas present when he was just over one and now he is nearly 18 months (the age this product is aimed at) something has switched on in his mind and he loves this train toy. He loved opening the box because the big yellow squid appealed to him. Now he is interacting a little more with toys, he loves trying ... to piece the tracks together and the little trains are just the right size to be carried around in little hands.
This product costs £25 on amazon. It is well worth this. It is very well made by the trusted brand brio. The tracks and train will fit with brio other sets and so you can start to build up a collection.
The set comes with a big soft yellow squid with a zip mouth. Four trains that are painted with a fish design on each. These will fit into the mouth of the squid for storage. Though who would use this feature I do not know!! There a number of track pieces that can either make a circle or you can use the two ramp pieces on the ends of the track. The is also a magnet on a strong, which you are meant to use to move the trains around but the magnet is so so so weak that even as an adult, I find it hard to make the train move and stay on the track with the magnet. There is no way an 18 month old could use it.
A lovely little toy nonetheless - just don't bother with the magnet! Read the complete review |
