Lamaze Dee Dee The Dragon
by kgilford
I am a huge fan of Lamaze toys. When I saw Dee Dee the dragon in Toymaster, I absolutely had to have her! She is a lovely pink plush cuddly toy, with many different textures and colours on her. Her tummy is bright yellow with a textured feel to it, her wings and the flower she holds feel all crinkly , she holds a ball filled with smaller ... balls to make a lovely rattle noise, and she has a mirror on her tail. The bright colours capture the childs interest and help them as they get older to identify different colours. The different textures mean that baby can learn what different things feel like. The different sounds help to develop auditory senses as the child gets older. The mirror helps the child learn their own reflection and recognize it, and provides a great game of peek-a-boo! All these different learning oppurtunities are fantastic for any child from birth right up to 24 months, helping them in different ways as they grow. The white ring attached to Dee Dee's back means that she can accompany your child in most situations. It is a clip which attaches to a playmat, cot, pushchair, highchair, and bouncer meaning your child will never have to be without her favourite companion!!
I adore this brightly coloured, stimulating toy and believe it helps children to learn so many new skills. As they get older, Dee Dee is also a fantastic toy for imaginative play, and there are endless possibilities with Lamaze!
You can buy Dee Dee from most toy retailers eg. Toys r us, Toymaster, Lamaze and she can also be found on Amazon, Ebay, and Asda amongst many others. she ranges in price from about £5-£10 with Amazon probably being the cheapest I have found so far. I would recommend her to anybody as well as the other Lamaze toys available as they are just fantastic!!! Read the complete review |

Lamaze Octivity Time
by intejoes
I had a £10 Amazon voucher and decided to get my son a toy. I was looking around for a good one for a six month old and I thought this might be a good one, especially as it is form Lamaze and I had seen some good reviews on it. I bought it from Amazon for close to £11 with free delivery.
As opposed to the image shown, the one ... I have is a blue coloured octopus. It has eight legs, all of which are differently coloured and textured. On the part facing upward, alternating four legs have the same blue colour as the head of the octopus. The intervening legs have a soft patterned fabric on them, with the predominant colour being orange, purple, green and red. These legs all have an attachment on them.
The orange one has a green tag attached, with a green knitted surface and a crinkly sound and texture when touched. The purple one has a round blue velvety patch on it, with a border of multicoloured ribbons. This patch also has a crinkly sound and texture when rubbed. The green leg also has a tag attached, covered in a soft yellow cloth and with a crinkly sound and texture. The red leg has a round white furry patch, and the leg gives a crinkle when touched.
The blue leg next to the red one has a purple starfish on a green base, which can be rotated with a ratchety noise. The opposite blue leg has a round mirror on it. Of the remaining two, one has a plastic orange coloured seahorse hanging loose on it and attached to the head with a tag, and the other one has two plastic rings attached that can be clanged together to make noise or to suspend the toy.
On the bottom part, each of the legs are covered in a plain coloured soft fabric in the following colours- yellow, orange, red, pink, purple, blue, green- dark and light. The middle bit has two velcro strips by which you can attach the toy to a pram or car seat.
The head of the toy has a nice smiley face on it, and squeaks when pressed. It also has four coloured ribbons on top. The toy is fairly large, around 30cm x 20 cm. The material is very good, quite soft and easy to clean with water .
Having read many good things about Lamaze toys, I have to say that this one was a bit of a disappointment. I certainly like the toy in the way it looks, and I think it is meant to offer the scope of various colours and textures to a child, but I think it is a bit boring. And I would say my little one agrees, as he has never seemed very interested in this toy. He hardly plays with it if I leave him on his own with it, but I do make him play with it when I am around. Even with the squeaking, he prefers his little rattle to this one. I think I might use this to teach him the different colours when he is older.
This toy has been a bit of a disappointment for us, I am certain there might be something better I could have got him for £10. Read the complete review |

Lamaze Play and Grow -Tina the Tiger
by womble1985
This Lamaze Tiger was a free gift on one of our Health Visitor visits when my first was about 4 months old. He was given this and another Lamaze toy.
I had no idea I would be getting free toys so they were a very pleasant suprise, more so when I looked them up on Amazon and found out they retail at almost £10 ... each!
On the label this toy does say it is called Tina the Tiger, but ours ended up being called Supercat. I can't remember why now but my son was in love with it for a few months and spent a long time playing with it.
She has various textures like crinkly ears. She holds a hoop with three coloured teether shapes on it. She holds in the other paw a small ball with a rattle in. The legs, ball and ears all have the trademark Lamaze patterned fabric detailing. She has an elasticated tab with hook on top so it is very easy to attach the toy to the car seat, buggy or cot etc. She is a bright orange colour with a few black stripes and is a good size.
On the back you can pull her tail out and it then vibrates for a few seconds and then goes back in. This would be a good feature if it was something your baby could use. Ok so I don't expect a 4 month old to have the strength to pull it, but my 2 year old still can't quite do it. He has the strength and know how but it is very hard to pull out, and hard to keep a grip of as you have to pull it hard. So if a 2 year old can't do it then what is the point of it? It needs to be easier to pull the tail or be replaced with a more useful toy.
The recommended age is from birth -24 months. My son loved this from 4 months onwards but after a few months didn't play with it quite so often as he was growing and learning so fast that other toys with lights and music took his interest more. My 3 month old daughter now though loves it and chomps on the teether shapes several times a day.
I am not sure if I had seen this in a shop that I would have been particularly attracted to it as I like to find toys that do as many different things as possible for the money. But being given it was a start to buying many more Lamaze toys.
This toy is very good quality, as I have found other Lamaze toys to be. It has been used for two children, machine washed several times and had its fair share of wear and tear. It still looks as good as new and both my children have played with it for long periods at a time.
I believe this retails for around £9 which I thought at first seemed alot for a toy but its quality and the the amount of interest babies have in it I would say it is well worth it. Read the complete review |
