Learning Curve Lamaze Play & Grow Jacques The Peacock
by Ninski1
I have a special place in my heart for Jacques the Peacock because he was the first toy that my son noticed and wanted to play with when was a baby. I had attached Jacques to the side of my sons Moses basket and whilst he was laying down on his play mat he noticed him and started to get very excited flapping his arms and legs about, so ... I unhooked him and attached Jacques to his multi gym and the love affair began. My son would play with him for what seemed like hours grabbing for him and knocking him around making him spin and flip over the top of the multi gym, he was also the first toy that my son learnt to grab so I will always love him. My son no longer plays with Jacques, but he lives on the door handle in his bedroom and will forever be part of our family, I hope one day to pass him onto my grandchildren.
Jacques is a brightly coloured peacock that has a few great features. He has 2 large and 2 smaller wings, each wing has a different feature, the first of the top 2 wings has a mirror on the second has a plush squeaky toy with brightly coloured ribbons all round it, it is also soft and fluffy, the bottom larger wings have crinkly features and raised bobbles that are fun to touch, also the wings have multiple lays so can be lifted. He has 2 cute little orange feet and on the top of his head is a link that you use to attach him to multi gyms, pushchairs etc. I used to attach Jacques to the pushchair when we went for walks and also hook him onto the car seat to keep my son entertained on car journeys.
Jacques is designed to guide your child through 3 key stages of development, stimulating vision, encouraging your baby to grip and also to refine motor skills and the squeaky bit also helps to develop auditory senses. Jacques can currently (May 2012) be purchased from Amazon for a very reasonable £7.95.
Overall I would highly recommend Jacques the Peacock to others, he really did help my son learn to grip and practice refining his motor skills. Read the complete review |

Lamaze Eddie the Elephant Tunes
by Ninski1
Eddie the Elephant has been living with us for two years now and he unfortunately spends most of his time sitting on a shelf. He can be purchased for £15.99 on the Amazon website (May 2012). Eddie is suitable from birth and measures 10.5 X 8 X 11.5 cms.
Eddie looks great he is purple and made from soft plush material, he has ... a long colourful trunk that has 8 different brightly coloured shapes sewn onto it that when pressed play a musical note. His ears are made from a shiny material and are crinkly to the touch, they are also quite big so are used as handles for picking him up. He sits upright and on his feet he has a number of different features, one has a star on, two are stripy and crinkly and one has a musical note on it that when squeezed plays tunes. He comes with a song book that you can use to create pieces of music with and by playing his trunk and firstly pressing his bottom foot you can record and then play back a song or tune that you have created.
I gave this to my son when he was able to sit up, so around 4 months old, he would chew on it and squeeze it and generally just play with it, he was however, unable to get a tune out of the trunk and after a while he stopped playing with it so I put Eddie away for a while, when he was about 1 years old I reintroduced Eddie to my son thinking that he would now enjoy playing with him, he was able to get a note or two out of his trunk, but overall you have to be very precise when using the notes and your often get nothing out at all or you get the note above or below. We tried to use the song book that Eddie came with, but gave up in the end, as my son got bored. Again Eddie was put away and having brought him out once more my son, now 2 years old still finds the notes difficult to master, and as for following a song book, he as no clue.
Overall, Eddie is a lovely looking toy, he is interesting to play with when you are a little baby as he is brightly coloured, crinkly and plays an interesting tune now and again, however, I just think that the recording your own tune feature is too advanced for the age range that Eddie is aimed at, really is it up to the parent to master the song recording and then play it back to the child, so in conclusion, Eddie is now back sitting on the shelf and I would not recommend him to others.
