Tommee Tippee Smiley Face Mirror
by cheryl326 I received this as a gift when i was pregnant and thought it looked great and could not wait to use it, being from tommee tippee a well known brand i was hopeful this would be a good toy/teether. It has googly eyes which wobble about when the mirror is shook, a red button nose which squeaks when you press it, 2 rubberised handles (as ... ears i guess!) some beads at the top and bottom in a plastic ring which rattle when shook and on the back a proper mirror. I took it out of the packaging when my daughter was 3.5 months old, and at first it was just used as a new toy to shake for her and a mirror for her to look in as she loves mirrors. As she has got older this toy was one of her first to become a favourite and the one that she would always go for or roll towards even when surrounded by other toys. I think it is brilliant as a teether, since she has been able to hold this for herself she has chewed on the rubber handles and also on the plastic outer ring, licked the mirror over and over and shakes it so much and gets so excited by it i can easily see why it is one of her favourite toys. She has it when going round shops in the pram and can give her comfort as is something safe to chew on when her gums are hurting her. Now she is getting older and at nearly 9 months with no teeth still using it regularly she can bash it when it's mirror side up and make the nose squeak which amuses her even more. One of my friends commented on how good it looked and that they wish they had something as nice as it for a teether and the fact that it has a proper hard mirror on it that the babies can see a proper reflection in and not a distorted one from the more plastic based mirrors lots of things have. I think this is a quality made sturdy product that is versatile in being a great teether and toy in one. Read the complete review |

Tommee Tippee Smiley Face Mirror
by Lools_24 In preparation for the arrival of baby number 3 in April, Mr Lools and I have been have a sort out and clear out of all of our twin boys' baby "stuff". We timed this around Christmas time to ensure we could make way for the influx of Christmas presents but also so we had time to see what other items we needed ready for Baby ... number 3's arrival. After sorting through many items in our own house I thought we were finished, however my mum kindly reminded me of all of the baby items that were still in her cupboards which we had the job to sort through. One of the items we came across and put to one side was the Tommee Tippee Smiley Face Mirror Teether. ***Tommee Tippee Smiley Face Mirror Teether*** The Tommee Tippee Smiley Face Mirror Teether is a circular plastic teether toy. On one side is a reflective mirror, on the other side of the toy is a colourful smiley face. The face has wiggly moving eyes, a button nose that squeaks and moving rattle beads around the outside of the mirror. The circular toy has two soft rubbery handles for a teething baby to chew on. The toy is around 10cm in diameter and the handles are around 4cm by 2cm on each side making this quite a large teething toy. Tommee Tippee state that the Smiley Face Mirror Teether is suitable from 0 months upwards therefore suitable from birth. The Tommee Tippee Smiley Face Mirror Teether is available from a number of retailers including Boots, Toys R Us, Asda, Tesco, Sainsbury's and is also available direct from Tommee Tippee at their website. The toy costs in the region of £4-5. ***Our Experience*** We bought this toy for my boys when they were around 15 weeks old at this stage they had just mastered picking up toys and were starting to reach out for toys and looking for entertainment. They were also starting to gnaw on toys and despite not having teeth at such a young age were starting to show teething symptoms. Entertainment wise this is a very fun toy for young babies. My boys took great pleasure at looking at their reflection in the mirror. On the reverse side of the mirror the bright colourful smiley face is very attractive and is very entertaining for a young child. My boys loved shaking the mirror about to see the eyes wobble and also hear the beads around the centre of the mirror shake and see them move. The squeaky nose is slightly difficult for a baby of under 6 months to press on their own, but my boys would giggle when I pressed it for them and soon learn how to press the nose on their own. The handles on either side of the mirror are designed so that they make picking this toy up very easy. The soft rubbery material makes them easy to grip and quite attractive for a teething baby to chew on and gain some relief from teething. Even when the handles are wet and slippy from being chewed on the toy can still be picked up. The toy is quite heavy just because of the reasonably large size therefore for very young babies who have just mastered picking up toys this toy is a challenge and will probably be dropped on a number of occasions. Not only does the toy bring sound and visual stimulation but has developmental benefits for a child's motor skills. My boys did like playing with this toy however I did not find it was one of the toys that I could easily pop in my changing bag to entertain my boys when we were out and about. The size of the toy isn't massive but in my huge packed changing bag with enough items for two babies I did prefer to take toys out with us that were small and light. I probably would have said despite being quite a thin toy because of the handles the toy was a little wide. Personally I would be apprehensive about giving this to a very young baby, especially those that have just mastered holding toys and picking them up. When my boys were just able to pick toys up I found that they would often have very uncoordinated movements and would flap their arms about whilst still holding a toy. With smaller lighter toys this was not such an issue if they hit themselves whilst holding these toys however with the Smiley Face Mirror Teether because it is quite large and heavy in size it often caused many tears if my boys hit themselves with the toy. The design of the handles means that a child can very easily hit themselves with the toy. We also had incidents of the boys hitting each other with the toy accidentally when too close to each other and holding this toy and we had occasions of my boys hitting Mr Lools and I with the toy (usually accidentally). Mr Lools in particular got hit in the face and nose with this toy whilst one of my sons excitably held this toy and waved it around and agreed it hurt a lot! With most toys I did not like to leave my boys unsupervised however this was a toy I felt that when they were playing with I needed to be at arm's reach even at 6 months old as they very regularly seemed to forget and fling their arms about when holding this toy. By around 7-8 months my boys were not really entertained by this toy in the same way as they had been previously. After a quick shake to hear the beads and see the eyes wobble, and then a quick check of their reflection they would put this toy down in favour of toys that had more entertaining features (i.e. the ones with buttons, light up sections or loud sounds). Therefore I would say this toy is limited within a babies development and better suited to younger babies, despite some of my earlier criticisms of the toy. Durability wise this is a very well made toy. The soft rubbery handles have survived months of chewing from my boys and there are no teeth marks in the handles despite all of the chewing. There are also no small parts that could become detached which is reassuring as it's a toy that spends a lot of time being chewed by young children. The plastic and reflective mirror section is also very well made. The toy has been dropped from height over and over onto hard floors and has not cracked. The toy is easily wiped over because of the plastic and rubbery handles. ***Overall*** Although the toy has only limited use as I found my boys soon outgrew this toy, at £4 this was a very worthwhile purchase and I felt excellent value for money. The Tommee Tippee Smiley Face Mirror Teether is bright and colourful and the different sounds and textures provide stimulation and encourage a baby's development. The soft rubbery handles also provide relief from teething. The Tommee Tippee Smiley Face Mirror Teether is well made from hard durable plastic and the reflective "mirror" has survived being dropped from height over and over again ready to use for baby number 3 . I would say the main downside to this toy is because of its size it is not the most transportable teething toy. Most parents will find that their changing bags are already fully packed therefore because this toy is quite big it is not the easiest of toys to just pop in a changing bag. The large size of the Tommee Tippee Smiley Face Mirror Teether also makes it quite a dangerous weapon when a young baby is waving their arms around which in our experience either resulted in my boys hitting themselves, their sibling or Mr Lools and I which often ended in tears. Relief from teething but not pain free! Read the complete review |

Tommee Tippee Smiley Face Mirror
by karlsm93 My almost 5 month old daughter is teething terribly at the moment but no teeth have appeared as yet. Anything and everything is brought towards the mouth, so quite obviously the toys that hold the most interest to her are those that are specifically designed for her to chew such as her Sophie the Giraffe teether, and now this Tommee ... Tippee Smiley Face Mirror Teether which retails t just over the £4 mark. My daughter received this as a gift at Christmas time, and has been enjoying it ever since. This tommee tippee smiley face rattle/teether, has two handles, which at almost five months is perfect for my little girl as she is coordinated enough to hold both handles and pull it to her mouth and shake it. Holding one handle doesn't really give the same support. The teether/rattle is bright yellow in colour, and has a large happy smiley face which my daughter seems to enjoy looking at. On the back of the main body of the rattle which is the happy face, there is a mirror, so when flipped around baby can look at themselves. Even though my daughter enjoys looking at herself in the mirror generally, she doesn't look much at this mirror and seems to prefer the smiley face front of the rattle/teether. On the front of the face side, baby can press in the squeaky nose which my daughter isn't able to do by herself as yet. The ring around the face side is clear with little rattle beads inside, so as baby shakes the teether the rattle will make the noise that it is designed for. It is the handles of this toy which are textured and so are perfect as teethers for a baby to chew on, which is exactly what my baby girl does, and enjoys doing. I think for the very reasonable price of this rattle/teether this is a great value toy which is very popular with my almost five month old daughter. She can use it as a teether, she can practice her fine motor skills by holding both handles and bringing the toy to her mouth, she can look at herself in the mirror, and she can shake it to make a noise. THis is now a toy that we always take with us wherever we go as we know it will amuse our daughter. Read the complete review |
