The interactive Barney is still my daughters favourite toy. It is played with at least twice a day, even if it is turned on to say 'I love you'!! I know a lot of people do not like Barney because it is an American toy and it can be used to entertain the kids, rather than the parents playing with them..... but then who lets there kids watch Tweenies or Teletubbies!?! Barney is fully interactive, he is a perfect size for squeezing and hugging and can sing one of around 12 songs when you press his toes! Including The wheels on the bus and Do your ears hang low? He can also play many games such as I spy and counting and colours. His vocabulary is around 2000 words. He takes 4 AA batteries but these do last for quite a while as he has an automatic shut off if not played with for more than 5 minutes. He gives a warning ..."I'm sleepy" and if no - one plays with him he says "It's time to go to sleep Goodnight" One of my favourite features is the clean up song! If you squeeze both hands together Barney will sing the clean up song, when my daughter hears this song she goes mad running around he house tidying up her toys... I could have been asking for 10 minutes but Barney can do it in 2 seconds! Barneys hands move up and down and his head moves from side to side, we now have some of the sweetest pictures of my daughter hugging Barney. Another great add on is the Barney Pc and Tv packs which can be purchased for around £30 each. We currently have the tv pack. This pack contians a back round box which plugs into the back of the video player and then into the wall, also contained is a BArney video. There are no wires to Barney which is a real bonus. When you turn on the box and play the video Barney will now say "I like watching T.V with you" He will then interact with the video, singing along with the songs and asking questions of the child so you can gauge how much they ar
e understanding. As long as a child isn't stuck in front of a Television with only Barney for company I can see no problems with him, my daughter loves him and for a few minutes while I nip to the loo or hang out the washing I know she is happy!! I purchased our Interactive Barney from the Early Learning centre for £50 I do not know know whether they are still avilable from them, the pc and tv packs were also available for £30 but I know they recently went down to £15 in the sale, so I would imagine the were hard to come by!! Thank you for reading my opinion please do leave any comments. Sue
this toy is awsome . it truly is i boght it for my kid an i still havent given it to him yet i love it to the max. however once i left it on a bus seet an i had to travel all the way from nivirda to siscatchcoonnannoo taxas to get it back. but i did an it was ok. it was a compleat nightmere to be parted with such an exelent toy.i dont know what i'd do whithout it.its the best thing thats ever happened to me, and i realy mean that.
I bought this interacting Barney for my two boys who are both special needs and it really is a great toy. Since I bought it they are speaking more and even started to join in with the songs that Barney sings. What is it, this is a toy Barney made out of a plush material that can be played with alone or can interact with the tv/video when connected up with the interactive pack (avilable for 39.99 extra). Also available is another extra in which Barney can interact through the computer roughly priced the same. What does he do plays games, counts, sings many songs including the famous I love you, plays peek a boo all with out being connected to the video or computer. Barneys arms move as he speaks and plays games or does other activites, also he has a light sensor in side of him so when you cover his eyes he says "Peek a Boo". I found that this was one of my childrens favourite things that he does. He really does interact with the video when a barney video is playing. he joins in with the songs by moveing his arms and legs to the music as the video plays, same when interacting with the computer. Another thing that was really good as there are no wires conecting from him All there is the wires comming out of the tv/video or computer that connect to a small round box. As long as Barney is not more than a few feet away from this box he will work, he does not need to be incontact with the box so the child can sit down on a chair and cuddle Barney while watching the video. Also I found that it really does teach the child things eg colours by singing the colours song they don't realise that there learning. This toy takes four AA batteries but what I did find was Barney will turn off automatically if not played with by saying " Im sleepy Goodnight" so saves battery power. I would recomend this toy to all parents for all young children.
We bought an interactive Barney for our two year old son for Christmas 1999. His grandparents helped with the cost by chipping in for the PC kit and Video kit. Without these kits Barney himself is still wonderful, but what a difference it makes when he talks to the television or computer! A year later my little one still rates Barney as his favourite toy. Barney has taught him to sing songs, to play simple games, a little bit of the alphabet, some numbers and much much more. I think the biggest plus is that by the age of 2 and a half my son was using a computer confidently without any problems. In an age where computers are now part of everyday life this is a huge advantage for him. He started nursery school a couple of months ago and his teachers couldn't believe how advanced he was for his age. The only disadvantage with Barney is that he has to be the most irritating creature ever dreamt of as far as adults are concerned. At the moment, Barney's batteries are running out. It's a huge temptation not to renew them!!
Last year I bought my kids an interactive Barney and video pack from the Early Learning Centre. WOW! What a hit this proved to be. The kids love the big purple Dinosaur anyway but to have him at home in their living room singing, playing games and joining in when the video is playing is something else. Not a cheap toy, last year was £100 plus £50 for the video pack, although I believe you can get it cheaper this year. Barney sings talks and plays games without the extra video or PC packs so in my opinion is well worth the money on its own but the extra of the add on packs makes him that bit special.
