Advantages: inexpensive, nice features like squeaky horn and storage under seat, can also be used as a push along toy, steering can be locked

Disadvantages: none

We got this little car from Argos (page 786 in autumn/winter 2000 catalogue) as a Christmas present for our one year old. It is described as a ride-on and push-along toy, however it seems quite light to me so I would have thought it would not be quite so good as a push-along unless the child is already quite confident at walking holding on. The toy was very easy to put together (it comes with the back, steering wheel and front wheels detached, but they all slot in very easily) however be warned, it’s not really possible to take apart again and get back in the box! Ours is now hiding in the bottom of a wardrobe waiting for Christmas day.

The car seems quite solid to me, the seat lifts up and has a little storage compartment underneath so your child can store things in there. There is a little squeaky horn on the steering wheel, and you can put a steering lock in place to prevent the front wheels from turning at first, if your child isn’t very stable on it. It’s just the right size for a one year old, and fine for a child who isn’t walking yet, though I think they would probably need to be at the “cruising” stage before they could really get much use from it.

This seems good value for money to me. Of course the real test will come when our daughter gets to play with it!

****UPDATE****

Well the car is a HUGE hit, not just with our 14 month old, but with our eldest who is almost 3. Both of them play with it several times a day and they love playing together, one of them on it with the other one pushing! Rebecca hadn't previously managed to use a ride on car properly, she'd sit on them but not know how to move her feet to make it move, but she seemed to get the knack straight away with this one. The girls love to store things in the seat compartment. We haven't bothered to lock the steering as it doesn't turn too far to be a problem. As a push-along toy it's
been fine, but our youngest was already walking by the time Christmas came so she doesn't really use it for support anyway.

I must say I'm absolutely chuffed to bits with this little car, for £10 it's an unbelievable bargain, probably one of our best Christmas buys of all. I would definitely recommend it.
