My oldest son is now officially a teenager. Hard to believe that thirteen years have passed since he was born. Fortunately, I have two much younger children who have inherited many of his toys and games from earlier in his childhood. Amongst his collection, are a number of Bob the Builder themed soft toys.
Bob the Builder was a really popular children's cartoon when my oldest son was a toddler and spurned a pretty impressive (and costly) of merchandise. We have a number of soft Bob toys, with Bob available in a number of different sizes from tiny toys through to almost life size! We even have Bob complete with soft tools and one which wears a set of soft safety goggles for all those important jobs he has to do. These are all soft and suitable for very young children to play with safely. They can also survive a trip in the washing machine if necessary!
Anybody with older children might have spotted that the TV programme has recently made a return to our screens with some pretty major changes. Bob is not given much more 'humanoid' features which I'm not entirely keen on. It does also mean that the original toys we own no longer form a representation of the characters in the up to date series so their resale value will decline. Ours are part of a collection and are much loved and some are in a poor state so that isn't a major concern of ours. It does mean that it will be possible to pick up lots of the soft toys based on the original series for next to nothing from sites like eBay, for anybody needing to complete a comprehensive Bob the Builder Collection!
Well it was Christmas, my son is 28 months old and obsessed with 'digger', so of course we could only expect Bob the Builder merchandise and that is exactly what he got.....but why this one? I cant give you an exact price on this because it was bought as a Christmas present by my sister, but she was complaining that it was now reduced to £7.99 in W H Smiths, so I'd guess around the tenner mark. Well he's a handsome looking chap about 10 inches high in a sitting position with full rig out including utlity belt, everything is also well fixed on so no danger of little hands pulling the odd spanner off and stuffing it in their mouths! He's looks good anyway, but the manufacturers just had to fiddle with him didnt they, I know you can get the Bob that says 'Can we fix it? Yes we can' but this goes a step further! You squeeze his hand and he actually sing those lines twice!! another added bonus being that he 'dances' or bobs' up and down with it. Unfortunately this just makes Bob look like he has a nervous tic and watching my son trying to imitate him was just short of hilarious!! The music isnt too loud, but yes of course it gets annoying after a while and oh the joy when I found there was an off button, unfortunately you have to tip him up and pull off the seat of his pants to get at the off button, My, that gets you some funny looks in Asda! It does have replaceable batteries but it cant go in a washing machine, although it does seem to have that type of material that can be easily sponged. Needless to say my son adores it, its just the right height to be hugged, if a little big yet, he wont go to bed at all without it and I'm slowly getting used to being woken up to the sound of Bob the Builders singing. I was a bit upset though when my son started crying in his cot the other night and was crying out for Bob instead of me! Aaah the power that toys have. My only qual
m would be the price, I would probably only buy this as a birthday or Christmas present because they do tend to be a bit faddish, my son is also quite happy with a big set of cars for 99p from Tescos. But for real fans of any age this could be the best present you could buy them.
Yesterday was my sons 2nd birthday and amongst his presents was a small beanie bob the builder. He is exceptionally made for a toy under £6 with his belt and tools (made of fabric) stitched on. I have had a good pull at them plus eyes to make sure! When you squeeze his middle, he says "can we fix it" and is answered by "yes we can". The great thing about this is that not too much pressure is required to make him talk, (although after a week i might change my mind about that!), so my son can easily do it himself. Bob can fix everything and anything that goes wrong in my sons world, he fell and hurt his head, i fetched Bob and got him press his tummy......smiles all round. Bob has even taken tiggers place at bed time now, and we often hear "can we fix it........! during the night. The only drawback with this toy is that it is non machine washable, due to the voice parts inside, and you cannot replace the battery and it only has a life expectancy of 500 plays. Having said that i think that Bob will go in the washer once his 500 plays are up and will continue to be my sons pal for a long time yet. We got this Bob the builder toy from Woolworths and it cost £5.99, excellant value
This was bought for my eldest sons 3rd birthday and both him and his little brother who is 1 loved it. In short it is a sat down teddy of Bob the Builder which with his left hand pressed plays the theme tune to Bob the Builder while Bob himself bobs his head up and down to the music, this is a really sweet toy that appeals to all ages. It certainly taught my 1year old how to nod and my 3year old some of the words to the song. Another bonus is there is an on/off switch just in the back of him and once turned to off it can be used as a normal teddy which is helpful when the kids just feel like cuddling him! If your child/ren are into Bob the Builder I certainly think its worth buying this whatever there age!
I have just spent the best £9.99 ever,i wanted a new toy for my son jacob whose nearly three years old.so i went off to look in woolworths and there was a wonderful display of Bob The Builder toys. The bright colours first attracted me,then the exceptional quality of the toys, definately not cheaply made.they are strong and sturdy and very appealing.Anyway i purchased a box set which contained a small Bob model with movable limbs,a cement mixer and a yellow scoop digger. In the last three weeks Jacob has been inseparable from these toys even takes them to bed with him.He plays all day with them, and can often be heard shouting out "can we fix it ? yes we can",i cannot describe the pleasure i get out of watching and hearing him play with these toys, and wouldnt hesitate to recommend them to everyone.Dont tell everyone but i have been known to have a crafty play with them myself, some people never grow up !!!!
Features include Bob the Builder's favourite soft tools that are stuck in his work belt, just like he wears them on television.
