      Lovely traditional quality toy

I purchased this helicopter from a brio shop in Sweden. I had never been in a brio shop before but loved it. I would happily have purchased their whole range of toys if I had the money and didn't need to fly back to England! I chose this helicopter for my son as it was one of the cheaper toys in the range and was small enough to pop in my hand luggage.

Brio are most widely known for their train sets. We have one and it has been a fantastic investment for our boys and lite girl too. The whole range of brio toys are well made, simple quality designs and great for encouraging imaginative play.

This helicopter is number 30195 in the range and can be purchased from amazon for around £17. It is approximately 20 cm long and 20 cm high. The wooden frame is of sturdy design and painted green. The helicopter blades are made of a softer plastic. To the front is a bright orange pilot. Attached at the front is a string which allows a child to pull the helicopter along the ground. As it is pulled, the wheels go around and the blades slowly spin. The faster you pull the helicopter the faster the blades spin.

Positives: the design of this toy is simple yet very appealing and the simplicity has the added advantage of making it easy to wipe clean! The construction is sturdy having survived three of my children playing with it. They have all really enjoyed this toy although they prefer to sit or lie on the ground to pull it along rather than walk with it. I also love that there are no batteries required and it doesn't make any noises! This is a welcome difference to most of our other toys.

Negatives: the string could be longer. I guess it is short for health And safety reasons but it is rather limiting. My other negative is the price. I appreciate that this is a quality toy but you can cheaper alternatives if you look.

This helicopter is sold for 18 months upwards but my children have enjoyed it most from 12-24 months.

I would highly recommend this toy. 5 dooyoo hearts!

      A fantastic boys toy

I purchased the Brio pull along helicopter quite recently as a gift for my son's birthday. I bought this toy from Amazon at £8.99, for the purposes of this review however I have browsed Amazon for an up to date price and found that it has now been reduced to £7.99.

Brio are an innovative company who manufacture a wide range of wooden toys, prams, strollers and furniture. Swedish basket maker Ivar Bengtsson started the company in 1884 and eventually expanded the product range to include wooden toys in 1907. Brio is now an international organisation and can be found online at www.brio.net. For further information regarding the company in particular please refer to my review of Brio.

The Brio pull along wooden helicopter is from the company's classic range and is numbered 30195. Brio's description of this toy is "No gasoline required - zips along, chops air, powered by child energy".

The helicopter is brightly coloured, the main body is a vivid green and the pilot figure at the front is a bold orange. The twirling blades on the top and the tail are white. What is not entirely evident on Amazon and Brio's photographs of this toy is that it has a rope at the front which enables your child to pull it along. This is ideally suited for young children learning to walk, although none walkers will surely enjoy it too.

It is constructed from solid wood and is very sturdy. It fares well in terms of durability and can withstand a good amount of rough play. Its smooth finish makes it very easy to wipe clean with a damp cloth.

The recommended age for this toy is 19 months although my son plays with this under very close supervision at 12 months. There are no particularly small parts on this product which could be a hazard except the screws which join the tail to the main body, although these are fixed securely in place and are embedded to a certain extent into the wood.

My son adores this helicopter. He is intrigued by its moving wheels and spinning blade. This is a classic boys' toy and one which I am sure he will continue to enjoy as he grows older!
