Chad Valley My First Mega Drum Set
Advantages: Easy to use, no assembly
Disadvantages: Base/stand got damaged quite easily
I think deep down I have a secret urge for my children to become either doctors or musicians. This toy from Chad Valley obviously is to encourage the latter!
This was bough for my son around a year ago from Argos. Argos sell the Chad Valley range, and I have bought quite afew of their pieces because they tend to be part of Argos's toy sale regularly throughout the year. Please dont let my comment put you off-I have found the Chad Valley Range to be varied and overall a good affordable quality toys such as instruments, dolls houses, bikes etc. This was bought for the huge some of less than £10.00, so thought it was a bargain!
Firstly-there was no setting up of this drum kit.All you had to do was put the ' base ' part and the actual electronic drum section ( obviously batteries needed to be put in, cant remember if they came already in the toy or not ). Its completely unisex in colour: red, green mostly. And a good size ( not very big but big enough to make a feel alittle substantial ) for toddlers to feel thay can have a good bash and play with it.
Its very chunky in design and the electronic section is quite durable and strong. It has a high hat, which when hit give a high hat sound, two pads that when hit give a drum like sound and light up, a big button that that is to press it to play, an easy play mode button and a easy play mode. This is a very easy toy for children to play and use. The age for this toy starts at 18months which I think is ideal.
The plus points to this toy is its unisex, and doesnt favour either sex in regards to looks or type of toy. This is something most kids would love to use. It not too loud but loud enough for children to enjoy and get the full effect. Its tactle and buttons/pads etc are big so children wouldnt struggle to use. Very easy to use and you wouldnt need any instructions.Take out of the box and go! Also, the fact that it comes in two pieces, it doesnt have to be on the base, it can be put on a table ( if thats more comfortable for the child ) or like my youngest child, I would put it on the floor and let her have a bash on it as she couldnt stand or sit on chiars at the time, but could and would sit on the floor, which made this a great musical toy for her.
The downside is after a few months, my son managed to get alittle rough with the base and the cover had a hole in it so the base unit became redundant and was thrown away. But to be fair, both of my children still use the electronic section.
If you can get this below £10.00 then its a good buy.The bit thats most important is the electronic drum section, which is strong and can with stand alot of abuse, the base not so much. If you were looking at buying this product above £15.00, I wouldnt bother.
Summary: Good toy but only at cheap price
