“ Manufacturer: Disney / Soft Toys „
My son was bought this Handy Manny tool kit recently for his 1st Birthday.
The toys that you can buy for a one year old are pretty limited, so I think this set is a great idea.
The tools come in a fabric bag, which is stiffened with internal cardboard to make it seem like a toolbox. It's about 12 inches wide by 6 inches deep by 6 inches in height. It's bright red and feels very soft - like velvet. On one side it has the Handy Manny logo written in red and yellow lettering.
The bag contains all of Handy Manny's tools - a torch, a hammer, a wrench, 2 screwdrivers, a saw, pliers and a tape measure, so 8 pieces in all. The tools vary in size, but the smallest is the tape measure at about 3 by 3 inches and the largest is the saw which is about 10 inches long by 2 inches wide. Each tool is plush and lovely and squishy - my son loves chewing on them already.
Each of the tools has eyes and a mouth, so they look like the characters on the tv cartoon show. The parts that in real life would be sharp or hard (such as the metal parts of the screwdrivers or the blade on the saw) are made from thick card covered in a smooth feeling material - they flex and bend, so there is no chance of your child poking themselves with them or injuring themselves in any way.
The tools are surface washable only, but if any of ours get really mucky I think I'll risk machine washing them, as they look sturdy enough to take it - I've washed Disney plush toys in the machine before and all have lived to tell the tale.
This set costs £18 in the Disney Store, which I do think is a little pricey, but then as usual you are paying for the Disney name.
I think this is a great gift for the youngest Handy Manny fans
Being a mum slightly obsessed with Handy Manny I was delighted when my son had these as a present while at EuroDisney. He also had the large Handy Manny plush doll (not shown in this picture).
I'm going to assume you know who they are and just give my view on them as toys. My only dislike is the screwdrivers, the shaft bits are quite hard and my son likes to poke himself in the eye with stuff - a recipe for disaster but take these out the way we have had no problems with others. When he's teething he loves chewing on dusty the saw which has resulted in her being nice and dribble stained. At the moment all he uses them for is chucking and they bounce really well lol.
The tool box is also soft and it adds another game of put them in and take them out to the toy, which is useful because at the moment he has no clue what tools are!
My son is only 12 months old and barring the screwdrivers I think these are excellent toys for youngsters, there are no loose bits to come off. I hope this toy will grow with him as he wants to use the tools in pretend DIY when he's a toddler. But I think he'll grow out of them faster than plastic tool kits.
