Dyson Toy Vacuum Cleaner
Advantages: Great for role play
Disadvantages: Front falls off a lot
This Dyson toy looks exactly like the real Dyson just a smaller version and of course it is for children to play with rather than mummy or daddy to hoover up. The toy comes in three separate parts that need to be put together when you first receive this vacuum cleaner. This is very easy to do and as it just clicks together it takes a minute at the most. The toy has different attachments just like a real Dyson too so when I use my vacuum clean my daughter can copy me exactly as we move around the house which she thinks is delightful. You will need to purchase 4 C batteries for this toy to work fully and we did not realise this at first so the first few days my children played with it without the noises and suction feature but they did not seem to mind.
The toy is made out of plastic that makes it durable and it has lasted well in the time we have had it but as it comes in three parts when you first purchase it sometimes these do come undone while in use which is rather annoying but as it only takes a second to put back together my children are not too fused.
There are two different modes of play with this Dyson one of the modes makes the colourful balls that sits in the dust compartment spin around as with real vacuum cleaners and my daughter loves this mode best she thinks it is brilliant it spins round just like mummy's. There is no sound with this mode just the movement in the cylinder and they fly around like pieces of dust.
The next mode is the Dyson actually sucks up small pieces of paper which I thought my daughter would like best but she found the first mode a lot more interesting. With this mode the toy makes a noise just like mummy's vacuum cleaner and it does work quite well with picking up pieces although it is not perfect. There is a small section at the bottom of this toy at the back and this collects small pieces of dirt when it is switched in to the second mode and my daughter thinks this is fantastic although it will not clean the carpet for you it is nice that it has a real life action as this makes my daughter love it even more. When I empty the dust from my vacuum cleaner she copies me and also empties hers.
There are wheels on the bottom of this toy so little one can push it around easily and it is very light so there is no problem moving it around with ease. The attachments have their very own place to sit on the toy and although these do fall out often my daughter enjoys this and finds it funny. My three eldest children all love this toy and they range from 2 years old to 5 years old so I really do think it appeals to a wide age range of children. The toy does recommend an age range of three years plus but I brought it for my daughter when she was two and my son who has just turned two also loves it so I do think it can be used before but of course as my children like to tear pieces of paper up to clean them up they always have parental supervision.
We find the bottom piece of the Dyson toy always comes off each time any of my children play with it which means I need to click it back in to place again before they can continue playing which is a shame. Also the slider which sets the toy to the different modes is a little stiff for little hands to push and until it loosened up a little I found I had to turn the toy into the different modes but now my daughter is a little older she can do this by herself.
This is a great toy I was debating if I should get the Henry vacuum cleaner or this Dyson and I am glad I choose this. The toy is more realistic to other toy vacuum cleaners as it both makes realistic noises and also actually picks up some small pieces of paper so my daughter can clean up just like mummy.
I purchased this from very when it was on sale at £10 but retail price of this toy can be anything up to £20 so I would shop around as it is on offer a lot of the time. It is available from most toy retailers and online stores like Amazon. I think the retail is a fair price to pay and even with having to purchase the batteries on top it has been well loved in our house and worth the money we paid. You can get different variations of this toy from different styles and colours so you should be able to find one to suit your child. If your child likes role playing toys I highly recommend this toy although it has a few downsides it has been well loved.
Summary: A great toy
