Advantages: Helps fears of hoovers.
Disadvantages: Doesn't actually clean your carpet(shame!).
Hands up all those who have a toddler who screams each time you get the hoover out? Mine used to, he couldn't stand to be anywhere near our Dyson. Then oneday I saw miniature Dysons free when you bought an adult model in The Army And Navy. That got me thinking. If I got my son to play with his own hoover then maybe he wouldn't be frightened of mine.
I purchased this bright red, purple and yellow hoover from Argos just before Christmas. It cost £14.99, and was money well spent. At first he was a little anxious as he removed it from it's box, but after a little while, there was no stopping him! He set to work, overing great expanses of carpet per minute, we were all amazed!
At a time when his entire vocabulary consisted of less than 10 words, the word "hoover"(pronounced "Oooooooover"), sprung from lips at regular intervals, infact, I would go so far as to say that he has become obsessed by it! His hoover now has to be parked up along side mine, in fact it looks really cute.
The 'Ooooooover' itself is exactly like 'mummy's, but instead of filth flying round inside the canister, brightly coloured foam balls fly round, an endless source of fascination. I would say however, that these balls often get a static thing going on and stick to the top or sides of the canister, but he doesn't seem to mind.
There are 2 ways of pretend Oooovering, balls flying round, or no balls, but incredibly gentle suction(enough to suck up a hamster's eyelash!), so there's no risk of fingers and toes disappearing up into it, and certainly not the fringe on your Pakistani rug.
The one problem I do have is that my son loves to leave his Dyson switched on when leaving the room, thus draining the batteries, which are AA and don't come that cheap . The realistic noise might drive you round the bend to. But, there is nothing more satisfying than watching one's husband hoovering, use the h
andle extension and adapter to get right against the skirting board, with your son using his extension handle and adaptor to help him. A housewives idea of paradise, and great for teaching little boys that houseworks a boys job too. Next week I'm going to start looking around for a Black and Decker work bench for my daughter!
