Advantages: different textures
Disadvantages: a lot for a simple toy
When my youngest daughter was a baby, I was in awe of all the toys I could have bought her, but also aware of the fact that I wasn't going to buy her too many as it wasn't worth it. I realised it would be better to wait to spend a lot of money on the toys that would stimulate her more when she got a bit more mobile and interested in toys.
The one toy I couldn't resist was the ELC blossom farm wrap around toy. This toy could be used for the cot, pushchair, and car seat and as a floor toy. I was a bit stunned when I realised the one I wanted was going to cost me £9.99 but I had fallen in love with the Blossom Farm range from Early Learning centre that I just had to have it.
For my money I got a toy that looked like a snake, in the shape of a spiral made of squashy fabric, the casing designed to consists of different textures for baby to interact with.
There were five different activities attached to this spiral toy, and if any of you have seen the Blossom Farm range you'll know the characters are centred on farm animals.
The toy held a chicken which had a smaller chick attached which vibrated when pulled, a sheep with a squeaker inside, a butterfly which has crinkly wings, a flower with a mirrored centre and a cow with a shaker inside it.
Not all of those are strictly farm animals but they are all things you may find on a farm, so it all fit in well with the range.
I first bought this for my daughter when she about three months old. At this age the baby won't be able to do anything with the toy, but it's a nice one to shake in front of them, and when they are lying in the cot, the mirrored flower can attract their attention if only for a few minutes at a time before they become over stimulated.
As my daughter got older and began to sit up more in her pushchair, this toy can in very handy for winding around the pushchair bar so she had something to touch and pull at when she was sitting in her chair for a while.
She found the chicks very difficult to pull even at ten months when she was still attached to this toy. I found that the chick was quite difficult for any child to pull and this was a shame as the vibrating action is one that small children really love.
The mirror function was her favourite over everything else and she would put her face into it very often as she got older. It would amuse her for ages.
Overall I think this toy is a good all rounder, suitable from birth and will last them until they are at least a year old. It was a very sad day in our house when the toy went on Ebay as we tried to create some space for the older toys.
Summary: suitable from birth toy
