      a decent toy from elc

When my daughter started going to playgroup, there were lots of different toys there that i hadn't seen before, and the ELC Cotton Reels were one of those toys. She was drawn to the table with the reels on as they are brightly coloured and as they were something she hadn't seen before, her interest was definatly taken straight away with them.

I decided that i wanted to get some of these for at home so i thought i would get them as a little extra for her birthday. I found them very hard to locate, as all my local stores were sold out and so i eventually found them on Ebay - luckily for the same price as ELC sold them for.

The Cotton Reels have several uses - shake, roll and sort. There is a long thick lace with the reels so the child can thread them on, this is the most popular thing in our house as my daughter likes to make it into a big chunky necklace! The child can colour sort the reels, there are red, green, orange, blue and pink, and with there being 24 reels per tub there can be fun in colour sorting and counting how many of each colour there is. Another alternative with them is tower building which is a little tricky with these for a two year old.

I think these cotton reels are fantastic for enhancing childrens development - they help the child use their hands for precise movements therefore helping with fine motor skills - especially when threading the reel onto the lace. They also help problem solving as they help the child work things out for themselves. They may not be the most fun toy you would ever buy your child but i would highly recommend them as they catch their interest and as an educational toy i think they are brilliant. The cotton reels are sold for £6 from ELC but i would think you could pick them up on ebay or amazon for slightly cheaper although they may be used.
