      Solid, colourful, traditional toy

This peg toy gets played with regularly by both my 3 year old and my 6 year old, and also by passing adults - its quite therapeutic I think! It's nicely made, a satisfyingly solid toy. The beads and pegs are quite large so they're easy for little fingers to manage. It is good for teaching colours - there are five different colours on there, primary plus orange. It is also good for teaching counting. There are five pegs. The first has one bead, the second has two beads, and so on. The numbers are written in the appropriate colour on the base so they get to learn to recognise the number too. They have fun making patterns and mixing up the colours. But they seem to get a lot of pleasure from putting all the pegs and beads in the right places. My one gripe with it is that the pegs are not fixed to the base. Whilst this means that they can take them out and play with them, and they have to match the coloured peg to the right hole, it also means that if you knock the base over the pegs and beads fall all over the place. It is one of those toys that I always seem to be picking up. And checking we still have all the bits. And hunting for the lost bead.
