A drum my neighbours don't mind listening to :)
Member Name: MsTricia
Advantages: fun, colourful, musical toy
Disadvantages: do not like the string attached on it
My daughter had a little musical phase and she has various "instrumental toys" such as keyboard and microphone stand with a stool, some maracas and in comes this lovely drum!
She got the drum as a gift some time ago, and played with it sporadically and then it lived in the bottom of her toy box. However, now she has chicken pox it means we have been housebound for the forseeable few days and she has had much fun in thrashing toys around her room and re-discovering this drum!
The drum is a colourful, playful toy with a green rim and red and yellow pattern around the cylindrical outer design. It looks and feels quite sturdy and has a string around the sides to go around the neck of a child like a proper drummer. To be honest, I am not too fond of this string as when she got this she was 2 and I was (like most parents!) a paronoid and worried mum about it getting caught and choking her as she can be quite rough and careless when she plays. Due to this I did end up cutting the string off so this wasn't too much hassle.
The surface of the drum is plastic that is really soft to the hand but can still create a decent noise on impact. This drum came with 2 drumsticks to hit it with, but of course as with most toys she has since lost one and rather than hit the drum with the one she has, she much prefers to just hit it with her hands, creating a nice beat and "la la la-ing" at the top of her voice lol.
The drum costs £13 on the website which I think is a bit steep but as a gift we won't complain! It says its for children aged 3 years and over, but I think children as young as 1 will enjoy bashing away on this drum as it is good for some hand-eye co-ordination and creating some music fun. My only concern would be the string attached to it, but remove this flaw and young children will have just as much fun with is as well as older kids. I even have a go myself banging on this from time to time and this gives us some fun entertainment!
Overall I really like this drum and I think it is a nice fun toy, and may even make a good christmas present for a child :) It doesn't make too much noise and the child will have a fun banging away pretending to be a rockstar!
Summary: a good fun toy, children will enjoy banging away on!
