Advantages: Bright colours, fun sounds, 'feely' fabrics
Disadvantages: Same tune as ELC Busy Bee
I had already bought an Early Learning Centre Busy Bug and as my daughter loved playing with it, I looked around for similar toys and found Ollie Octopus which I thought she would enjoy as well. I got this when my daughter was about 2 months old.
Early Learning Centre Ollie Octopus has 8 legs (obviously!) that all entertain baby in different ways. There are squeakers and rattles which although my daughter couldn't manipulate, she enjoyed it when I played with them for her. The feet are also different materials which can be touched and played with. There is a silky surface, a crinkly one and a rough one. The hat on the octopus has a crinkly rim and there is a fish connected to the centre of the octopus which plays a soothing melody when pulled. The whole octopus is brightly coloured with a smiley face and is made from a soft fabric which is nice to touch.
My daughter really enjoyed this toy. The bright colours kept her attention easily and she liked chewing on the different fabrics on his feet. She loved it when we played with the squeakers for her and she would always reach out for him when she saw him. The melody he played was good for helping her sleep and lasted for a good amount of time before having to pull the chord again. The only problem was that it was the same melody as the Busy Bee had so I got fed up of it quite quickly!
The quality of this product is very good as I would expect from ELC. We bought ours second hand and have now passed it on again and it was still in very good condition. It was suitable for her from 2 months and she probably got bored of him by about 10 months as she was walking by then and wanted more exciting toys. It costs around £10 new and I think that is a fair price for a great first toy.
