Advantages: lots of accessories, ideal for pretend play
Disadvantages: not cheap, takes up a lot of space
ELC’s Sizzlin’ Kitchen costs £50. It includes a built in cooker and dishwasher, a sizzling frying pan, and over 30 play accessories. It is 100cm high and requires 2 x AA batteries, which are not included. The Sizzlin’ Kitchen is suitable for children of 3 years and above.
So I decided to buy the Sizzlin’ Kitchen for Christmas. As it is a large item I didn’t fancy the idea of buying it from the local ELC shop so I ordered it online. ELC charge £2.95 for delivery, but when I visited the ELC website they were offering £5 off the first order. Placing my order online was very easy. I had the ELC catalogue so I found the product I wanted by using the Catalogue number, but you can also search for products by categories.
I placed my order and it was confirmed by email later that day, the email also stated that delivery would be made within 3 working days. The kitchen arrived by courier within 3 working days as specified. It was in a huge cardboard box, so I knew I had made the right decision having it delivered.
Some assembly is required, but there are clear, easy to follow instructions included. The instructions also lists the parts that should be in the box. The assembly took about 20 minutes, this included putting on the various stickers.
The end result is a silver, yellow, green and orange kitchen. It has an oven with a pull down door and a shelf inside and a dishwasher with another pull down door and a plastic basket for loading the dishes and cutlery in to be washed. Both have knobs that can be turned and make a clicking noise.
Above are shelves on both ends and a compartment with a plate rack across the top for storing all the accessories. There is a rail and hooks below for hanging the kitchen utensils. There is also a shelf and
hooks to one side of the kitchen. In the middle is a sink with a pretend tap. There is a compartment to store cutlery etc., a recess for a frying basket to fry the chips and another recess for a bowl to fit.
A hot plate is included in the kitchen top, this requires batteries as when sausages are put in the frying pan they sizzle. The saucepan ticks as the egg cooks and the pressure cooker steams. There is a screwed down cover on the hot plate, which must be removed to put the batteries in, so it is not easy for children to mess with.
There are plenty of accessories included, such as the sausage to go in the frying pan, the egg to go in the saucepan, the frying pan, saucepan and pressure cooker all come with lids. There are plates, cups, knives and forks and salt and pepper pots, chips for the fryer, all the utensils to hang up. A recipe book is also included.
This is an ideal well designed toy for any child who loves to play cooking and washing up. It has given my daughter hours of fun, she has made us endless drinks and pretend meals and the sound effects make it sound very realistic.
The Sizzlin’ Kitchen is not cheap, but I did look at other toy kitchens and I could not find anything as well made with the same features. The kitchen on display in the ELC shop had obviously taken a good battering from all the other children playing with in and was still standing so that was good enough for me. The other thing to consider before buy this toy is the size of it as it does take up quite a bit of space.
