Advantages: lots of accessories included
Disadvantages: easily loose the accessories inside the kitchen , Over excited toddler broke the door!
For our Daughter's second Christmas we got her a kitchen. I had spotted in my favourite store(ELC of course) a brightly coloured Orange and Green and silver kitchen. The cost was £50.
It was a decent size and was about 1 metre high roughly (it's in the garage just now on the rotation toys list). One side had a wee electric hob, and the other side had a sink with removable tap, just as well that daddy the plumber was able to fix it back on when she removed it. The Hob and sink could easily be removed too. Next to the hob was a small basket for chips and they went into a little perfect sized triangle to pretend that it was the deep fat fryer. An oven was below the hob and a dishwasher below the sink, although our daughter decided otherwise.
One side of the kitchen had a little green table, which folded up and down to allow you to serve dinner up. It's not a big table, but if you don't have much room it can take up a big amount of room. You also need to keep an eye on tiny fingers as they can easily be caught in the underneath of the table, if it bangs down or hasn't been put up properly. The other side had little hooks and we provided our daughter with a mini dishcloth, teatowel and rubber gloves. She was in her element until the day I cottened on to how the floor was so wet. She had been taking the teapot from the tea set upstairs and filling it with water to "wash the dishes" in her words!
Above the kitchen is a sort of roof, and this is where the the plates can be stored. Just down on the bars which hold the plate rack up are 2 circular shelves. These are great for holding the cups and salt and pepper accesories. Also hanging down from the plate rack is the utensils hooks! The utensils hang down, but I found my daughter had difficulty reaching up and unhooking them.
Now on to the Functions of this "Sizzling Kitchen"....
Working Hob: There is one Electric Hob plate. It has a few ridges o
n it. There a 2 pots provided a stock pot (pressure cooker) and saucepan. You put these on to the hob and they start to boil, once cooking is finished you here BEEP BEEP BEEP. You know whatever is cooking is ready. A little frying pan comes too. Put that on to the hob and this makes the frying sound of sausages and when they are cooked you hear the familiar "BEEP BEEP BEEP" again. The hob is removable and the battery goes underneath a screwed area. I'm sure it was 2 AA battery required. Almost 2 years on we are still on the first one! That's good news or not so good news if you need to hear "BEEP BEEP BEEP" all the time.
The accessories provided, include chips for the fryer, sausages, eggs and various veg. Plates, cups, utensils, plates, forks and knives.
Stickers come with the kitchen for the knobs for the dishwasher and hob, for the plate rack and for the salt and pepper pots. You also get stickers for the dishwasher and oven. Before you put these on, make sure you have the correct door unlike us which is probably why E changed the oven and dishwasher over.
This Kitchen comes at a very reasonable price for what is included, and gives hours of imaginative play. Just beware though, you have to play cooking a lot of be subjected to many different meals!
I did feel that although the kitchen itself is very durable and made well, the doors were flimsy, but luckily grandad glued the broken door back on. I have also said 3-5 years below although it was reccommended 3years+, we bought this just before she was 2 and she was ready for it.
One warning, if you loose anything, take out the hob, the sink and take the feet off the kitchen, you'll soon find the food and cutlery you had lost!
This one is no longer available but the new jazzier version with a 4 plated gas hob looks wonderful and it''s blue. So have a peak if you are passing and even if you don't intend to buy go in and
pretend cos really we're all big kids are heart, aren't we?
