Advantages: LONG LASTING TOY, EASY TO KEEP CLEAN FROM GRUBBY MARKS

Disadvantages: NONE

Not long ago we decided to try and salvage some of Gemmas old toys that she had outgrown to pass down to her younger brother. Being locked away in the attic in the land that time forgot, we came across her much-loved Tumble Tortoise, or Shelly, as she is more commonly known as in our house.

Shelly is basically a tortoise shaped pull-along toy aimed towards babies who have reached the stage of walking. Craig is now at this stage so it was time to give Shelly a good old dust down so that he can play with her.

Bright green in colour with a friendly, smiley face, Shelly gets around with the help of 4 brightly coloured wheels. As the axles are slightly bent, as you pull her along she has a funny wibbly wobbly jiggle as she walks. On her back is a large ball, which is half white and half blue. Inside the ball there are lots of brightly coloured beads and when you pull the tortoise along the ball spins making the two colours merge and the balls whiz around making a rattly sound that appeals to young children.

The toy is very robust and can withstand anything that it has thrown in its path. It has had a lot of torture, namely being kicked, thrown across the room and left outside in the rain. Despite all the bad treatment she has received, she looks very well. Almost as good as the day she was taken out of the box, give or take a few scratches.

Because Shelly is so tough there is no chance of the small beads escaping, unless you try and crack it open with an axe. This toy has been tossed down the stairs a number of times and is still in one piece so is very safe for young children.

As this toy is made from plastic, keeping it clean is very easy. Because there are no batteries needed it can be submerged in water for a good scrubbing, otherwise a wipe with a clean, damp cloth is enough to remove and grubby marks such as biscuits or chocolate.

Although intended as a pull-along toy, Shelly can be played with by youn
ger babies who are not yet able to walk. Simply pushing her along the carpet gets the same results as pulling her along by her string.

We paid in the regions of £8 for this toy and it was money well spent. Providing many hours of fun for our daughter, I am sure Craig will adore her too and she will end up following him wherever he goes.
