Another review about a toy we have at work! It’s the wooden maze from the Early Learning centre.

Description.
~~~~~
This is a wooden square about 20 cm long,( forgot to measure it at work so can not be sure ) This wooden square is a natural colour , I think its pine . Has in each corner a coloured round wooden peg, a red, yellow, a blue or green one these goes through the square so that the wooden square can be raised above the surface it is sitting on, and either face of the wooden square can be at the top.
A maze has been cut out into the middle of this wooden square, some straight paths some wiggly and some curvy. These paths lead their way into and out of the corners of the square wooden
In the maze paths there are 12 pegs 4 red, 4green, 4 yellow, 4 blue. These pegs are a good thickness for a child to grip and they can be move easily along the paths.
This toy seems to quite durable .
How to play with this maze
~~~~~~
. Well your child can try and sort the coloured pegs and put them in the base coloured corners or they can just move them around the maze making patterns.

Skills learn and practice by using this maze
~~~~~~~~
This maze is good for practicing eye hand co-ordination. It is a useful tool for some of my more disabled pupils who have poor grip grasping the pegs and moving the pegs around the board is a fairly fun way to practice.
I have helped some students to move the pegs around by putting my hand over theirs and assisting the movements of the pegs, hand over hand we call it.
This toy helps colour recognition and sorting skills, it is not quite as easy as it sounds to get all the colours separated into their own corners.
Suitability.
~~~~
This toy is suitable for children aged 18 months to 3 years old. Depending on your Childs maturity and abilities.
This has not got a soppy baby picture on it so we feel it is age appropriate for our older students, thinking about it, this toy would probably be good for arthritic older hands

Availability .and price
~~~
This toy is available from ELC stores or on line at http://www.elc.co.uk/SearchProducts.php?words=wode n+maze &submit.x=13&submit.y=12. The cost is a tenner so I think its fair value for £10.
Thank you again for reading about one of the toys I use at work. Mary
.
Summary: A wooden maze
