I bought an E L C wooden farm for Adrians 2nd birthday. This farm is a traditional wooden farm. It was 2nd birthday yesterday.

I bought this farm for £15.00 I notice in their online sale today it is only £12 but there is no stock available.

This set has a wooden farm base that folds into half for easy storage. This opened out measures somewhere just over about 2 feet / 60 centimetres the base is about 1 cm thick it is not quite a square. (Bother I should have measured it.)
The base is green like fields. These fields have white flowers scattered on it. (Painted) A blue pond in one area of the base and it has a stone path meandering through the farm. One area of the base is painted brown and has cabbage like vegetables also painted on it.

There are 4 buildings to construct for the farm, a pigsty, a barn, and a chicken coop and out houses. These are easy to construct. Pegs of wood that you insert in to holes

. These buildings are painted with red brick, and stonewalls, red tiled roofs. They have flowers growing up the walls; a water pump is painted on one wall.

There are interlocking wooden walls and fences so your child can make fields and enclosures.
This farm comes with out any animals or people without tractors and trailers.
So to complete the set you have to buy them separately. . Fortunately for me I discovered a set of Animals for sale in a charity shop also a tractor, so I bought them and washed /disinfected them before I gave them to Adrian.
The early learning centre sells the animals and a tractor.

I must admit when I gave it to Adrian he was not desperate to play with it he was keener on the toy washing machine I had also bought him. I was not surprised as that made noises the farm did not.
The farm is a toy that is really recommended for a 3 yr old. Adrian has played with the animals and tractor before so I know he will develop and play with it.

Adrian has in fact gone to a farm today with his parents as his bday treat. He can say and recognise some animals cow, sheep, pig and make the appropriate noises.
This farm is really an educational toy, (do not tell Adrian) when he gets a little older he will be able to do some easy maths with it counting the animals. He can already count 1, 2. He can sort the animals into sets all the pigs in the sty the cows in the field also learning where animals like and the names of their homes. Some of the animals of the same breed that I bought are big some little so Adrian can learn about size. All these are basic maths skills in the foundation stages.
I am sure this will also help his language skills not just animal names, but the pig is IN the sty, the hen is ON the tractor the cow is UNDER the tree.

I am sure my daughter will have great farm games with Adrian teaching him while they play. Also I think Adrian will play with this toy on his own or with friends, learning to share and play with someone else.
The play that this toy inspires can be extended by introducing other toys too it a doll to be farmer. (I think Elc has one) In the toy animals I got for Adrian there is some zoo animals too so it could easily become a zoo.
I think this toy has lots of play potential. Also it is well made and will outlive Adrian’s play. It is suitable for a nursery class as it is so sturdy.
