Falk Ford Tractor and Trailer
Advantages: Strong, sturdy and attractive
Disadvantages: Difficult to assemble
After selling some items on ebay recently I decided to spend my earnings on some toys for the garden for my 17 month old son. Our house is gradually being taken over by toys yet the garden has been somewhat neglected with the lack of any decent weather. I subsequently browsed Amazon for some ideas and came across the Ford Tractor and Trailer by Falk.
This sit and ride tractor was rather attractively priced at the time of purchase. Amazon stated that it was just £24.99 having been reduced from £40.00. This seemed a very reasonable price in comparison to other sit and ride toys, in particular the other colours in the series which were still priced much higher. I was a little taken aback however when less than a week later I browsed Amazon again in order to show a friend the URL to the toy which I had bought, to then find it priced at £49.85! When Amazon previously stated it had been reduced from £40.00, this was clearly untrue.
The Falk Ford Tractor and Trailer was delivered in excellent time, to the best of my memory around two or three working days. I opened the box with excitement to find that despite the box being the size of the toy if it were constructed, it was not constructed. With a positive attitude I read through the instructions, then again and again until I finally decided that this was clearly a job for my husband and stored the box away until that evening.
This was not a simple toy to construct. The instructions had no wording, only diagrams, some of which did not match to the pieces included. In particular there was a base plate shown on the instructions which fitted below the seat, this item was not in the box. Initially we thought that it had been missed out but later discovered that it was not meant to be included and that the instructions did not quite match the product. This of course made it all the more confusing. In order to construct this toy you need a screwdriver, a hammer and lots of patience and persistence. This is not a job to undertake with an inpatient child watching over you and we therefore waited until our toddler was in bed.
Once constructed and with the stickers in place (this involved a little guess work as there was no guidance on the instructions!) we were rather impressed with the overall appearance of the product. It is however quite lightweight and the seat is perhaps a little on the small side in comparison to the size of the toy. My husband asked how much this toy cost and was in agreement that £24.99 was a suitable price, however he was slightly taken aback when I told him it was reduced from £40.00, let alone the £49.85 it is priced at now.
This product is a simple sit and ride toy. It has no mechanical or electronic features and the horn is a simple squeaker.
My son adores his tractor and trailer and was quite simply in his element the following morning when he was presented with it. He is a little short for his age (he has inherited that from mummy!) and only his toes touch the floor. He therefore likes us to pull him around on it, unlike his trike which he will rather independently scoot around on. He places his toys in the trailer and gets into the seat. He can very easily sound the horn and turn the steering wheel.
In summary, this is a great toy which can be used both indoors and outdoors. It is not too heavy but it is very sturdy and durable. When constructed it does look of a great quality and the Ford logo further enhances that. I do feel that it is now somewhat overpriced, but as Amazon change their prices so often and to such a great extent I'm sure it will not be long before it is reduced to a suitable price again.
Summary: A fantastic toy for the garden or home
