Fisher-Price Activity Centre
Advantages: Lots to do
Disadvantages: A little repetitive
The toy is great for helping little one with motor skills as there is lots to do on the activity centre each helping slowly develop small motor skills while entertaining little one at the same time. Although on first inspection it seems a little bulky for a child to carry round even with the convenient handle I guess that is why it can be used propped up in the cot also so when they are younger they are still able to play with it. There is a strap to attach it to the cot but this is a little small and we found it better just propping it up on the cot as then little one can move it if they wish and it makes it easy to remove at bedtime so it does not distract little one from the task at hand of sleeping.
Along with the activities set out on the front of the activity centre it also has lovely bunnies and flowers moulded into the plastic to make it lovely to look at and the corners are rounded to make it safe for younger babies.
There are lots of different activities for little one all there is a dial which simply is like an old phone dial for little one to spin around using the circle finger pieces and when you do so it makes a clicking noise to encourage little one to continue. On the opposite side to this is another dial that has to be spun by a knob in the middle of the activity this makes the circular picture spin round and around again and my little girl also loves this. A large mirror in the middle of the play centre which has to be my daughter's favourite it helps catch and hold her attention and she loves staring at herself in it of course this is not made of glass but a reflective material so you can still see in it rather clearly. There are 2 sets of rollers one bottom left of the activity centre that when you turn it you get different textures for little one to touch and stimulate their sense of touch and two on a bar at the bottom of the centre that can be moved round in a circle or side to side to provide something a little different for baby.
There is a large button that squeaks when you press it which again was one of my daughter favourites it is easy enough to press and the sound is rather loud so she liked repeating that over and over again. There is also a small witch in the middle of the play centre that when you move it side to side it moves the picture that sits above it at the same time so little one can watch a sequence of animals fly by them as they move the switch. Finally there is a knob for little one to move up and down which makes a clicking noise and a few pictures that has different textures for little one to run their fingers across and explore which not only are attractive to look at but great for their sense of touch also.
It is really durable my daughter has dropped it more times than I can remember it still remains in one piece and works fine as it is rather bulky and made of thick plastic it is definitely made well for use by younger children which as all parents will know is essential.
It can be wiped down easily which means it looks new as soon as you wipe it with a damp cloth although once my daughter decided to smudge her cake into a few of the activities and this was a little more time consuming in cleaning although it came up good again in the end.
It is a very simple toy with simple activities on it but it seems to really please my daughter and she loved all the different things to do. It grabs their attention and although does not hold it for very long she was full of smiles while she was playing.
Although it is rather large and bulky it is surprising light but well made so it is another brilliant product from fisher price it lasted well and my little girl got a good years use out of it and although it was not once of her favourite toys she did come back to it again and again for short periods.
Some of the activities are a little repetitive the same function just in different forms but my little girl did not seem to mind she loved there was so much choice for her and they are all really easily accessible and a child can play independently by themselves or mummy and daddy can join in which is great.
It is recommended from 3 months plus which if it sat correctly on the cot would have been great but unfortunately the strap was just too small and as it would only fit to the top of the cot rather than the bars around it my daughter would have needed to be standing to use it so we held off for a little while and she loved playing with it while it was lying flat on the floor or propped up against something.
At around 9 months the toy got forgotten about and just sat in the toy box unused until she got on her feet and then she had a new found love for it by carrying it around by the handle at the top. It is light enough to be carried around but did get dropped a few times but she then continued to use it until she was around 19 months old where she got bored of it and it ended up at the bottom of the toy box again.
We brought this from Tesco apparently reduced from £20 to £10 but I would say the lower price is more correct it does last well and is very simple yet entertaining and I will be digging it out for my expected daughter again as I am sure she will love it too.
Summary: A great activity centre
