Advantages: Great fun potential, Lots of extras you don't notice at first
Disadvantages: Quite big, Quite expensive but worth it
My little boy has just turned two and we bought this for his main birthday present. On ripping off the wrapping and clasping his eyes on it for the first time he was in a word nothing short of ecstatic! He's always adored anything to do with cars and will sit for ages at our windowsill just watching the cars drive past our house so we thought this would be an ideal pressie....and we were right!
One word of warning, although I was out of the house at the time my husband put this garage up (the night before Jack's birthday) I was well informed when I arrived home, that the bloomin thing was in about a thousand pieces! and it took him all of an hour and half to put it together! needless to say the hard work paid off and my husband enjoys playing with it as much as Jack and his older brother do!
**Please note unless your planning on putting this in a childs bedroom please make sure you have the room for it downstairs, luckily we do, but it is quite big at approx 28" high (at the highest point) by 30" across (at the widest)**
Now the general eebie-jeebies of it:
**Now I'm not to clever when it comes to motor-racing - or anything to do with cars really! but going off the stickers(!) the garage is a 'Ferrari' garage with multiple stickers advertising this fact meant to be splattered around, including every european flag going I think (which fits nicely along the side of the lift tower) but alas you only need to use the ones you see fit as they come on a seperate sheet to be added by you (personal touch and all that :))
**It is a multi storey garage with 3 floors, with a lift taking you up to which floor you chose and a nice and fast windy road for bringing you back down again (great fun!) You place your chosen car on the lift base then on lifting the lift, as you reach each floor there is a barrier which lifts to give you the opportunity to 'drive' onto whichever one you fancy! If you chose
to be 'lifted' to the top floor the lift flips up and your car gets shooted down the top ramp and straight down the 'windy road' or (now this is the fun bit!) there is a barrier (or switching gate) that can be pushed up (through the underside) which (again if you go to the top floor) sends you shooting down the speed ramp, this feature has an adjustable starting gate to line up the cars ready to race (complete with starting flags) and also an adjustable jump lever based at the bottom for either a smooth run down or as a jump obviously!
**Now for the bottom floor, you have a mechanics sticker to give the feel of a workshop, there are barriers (2 of) and a handy petrol pump if your car seems to slowing down! Placed very cleverly under the second floor/above the bottom floor is a sliding draw where there are the (supplied) cars (a red one and a black one) and also a pick-up truck. These are of course Ferrari cars and are of the chunky kind, ideal for little hands! but it is also a garage suitable for all matchbox/hotwheels or most die-cast cars.
On the box when you buy this garage it is stated only suitable for ages 3 and above, as my son was only two we thought very carefully about buying this particular garage, luckily my son is very sensible, and although I have yet to find any tiny parts that could be a hazard for choking etc that doesn't mean that there aren't any and I am always there playing with or supervising while he is playing with or around it.
All in all I think this is a great present for any occasion, although quite expensive at the time I think it's more than worth it and will last for many many years and is very sturdy, it has withstood my eldest son standing on it to look through the window for starters and he's almost 4!
Like I have mentioned before you certainly need the room in your house for one of these as you can't exactly fold it away when your not playing with it, but if y
ou have then I would highly recommend it, for hours of fun, young and old!
