Advantages: Looks cute

Disadvantages: Extremely difficult to work, doesn't last long enough

My 6 month old daughter is at an age where toys only keep her attention briefly and so it an be quite useful to have a variety to keep her entertained for a while, as she is staying awake for longer periods now. My mother in law recently bought my daughter this Fisher Price Bounce and Giggle Cow which you can purchase on the likes of amazon for just under £9, although I think my mother in law actually bought this in Tesco.

This cow is actually one of three in the range, you can also get an elephant and pig. This toy is stated as being suitable for children from 6 months plus, although I see no reason why it could not be shown to a child who is younger.

This cow has a round body with white and black patches. It has chewable ears, which supposedly make it suitable for use as teethers, although it is pretty difficult for a child to hold this reasonably round and big toy in their hands for long enough to be able to get hold of the ears etc to chew on. I know my daughter certainly wouldn't be able to do this, it simply isn't the right shape for her to hold herself and manipulate enough to get into parts into her mouth.

This toy is meant to be entertaining for a baby in that when you press the animal's nose it will vibrate and play music. It actually plays two different tunes, but doesn't really vibrate very long and you need to re press the nose rather often. This is where the BIG flaw comes in. It would be virtually impossible for a child, particularly a young child although an older one would likely struggle too, to actually be able to push the nose to get the animal to start working. Even I as an adult struggle immensely to get the animal to work. It is only be constantly pressing different parts of the nose until it starts vibrating and playing music, but I still haven't cracked the right technique. It really is very very difficult to work.

My daughter does like to look at this animals vibrating but again there is a problem. Neither the vibrations nor the tunes last long enough. By the time she has started to study the cow, the vibration has practically stopped, and I am struggling to get it going again.

I think you could class this toy, despite it being from the well known and respected Fisher Price company and not child user friendly. It is not easy at all for a child to work, and it simply doesn't last long enough. Even my mother in law was very disappointed when she saw it at work.

Summary: Big flaws with this product
