My youngest daughter was bought this Winnie the Pooh bear for her first Christmas. Luckily it is suitable from 0+ age which is a rare thing amongst soft toys as we dicovered when our first daughter was born and everyone was gifting her soft toys that were suitable for 3 years plus so we had to put them away for a while.
This toy, to be known henceforth as WTP stands around 25cm tall and is dressed in his classic red crop top tshirt which is printed (not embroidered) with his name. The Tshirt is also stitched on to the bear so is not removable. The material is really soft and you can see why he would appeal to a young child for regular snuggles.
To be honest, I'm not a huge WTP fan, and would not choose to buy any WTP branded items as he just doesn't appeal to me. I prefer more muted colours and I know children like bright colours but that's just me. I don't really go for many of the Disney branded items as I find them a bit garish. Never mind this, it doesn't matter what your preferences are when it comes for children, you may vow to never buy plastic toys too but it is inevitable that someone will buy these for them as gifts and you end up with them anyway. I don't mean to sound ungrateful but I had spent a lot of time, effort and money decorating the kids' bedrooms in beautiful colour schemes and then you enter the room and your eye is drawn to the yellow WTP.
To be fair, this bear has done no one any harm. He is soft and nice to touch and suitable from birth.
He is well made and has no bits that look like they will fall off.
My daughter does like snuggling him.
You can only hand wash this bear.
His tshirt is printed on and this will wear off after a bit of child mauling (from the child, not the bear).
I don't like his eyebrows (they give him a permanent surprised look)
As you can tell, I'm not a huge fan of this bear. We have a WTP noisy book that is his voice and even that annoys me! This would not be a bear I would choose to buy as it is not to my taste but nonetheless we have this toy in our collection along with the noisy book and even a sleepsuit with matching hat and gloves from the WTP range so there are obviously lots of WTP fans out there that I will alienate from ever reading my reviews again... sorry!
When we were having our first daughter we made her nursery Winnie the Pooh and friends for the decoration so when she was born she was given a number of Winnie the Pooh and friends soft toys all of which still sit proudly on her shelf even though her room has changed.
This Winnie the Pooh came packaged in a box which was the usual lilac-purple colour most Winnie Items are associated with. The box stated that the toy was suitable for age 0+ although Sophie has never actually played with this toy it has only ever been on display.
The toy is approx 27cms tall and he is made just like the traditional Winnie the Pooh character should look you can tell this is not a cheap version of the character. He is a loveable bright yellow bear wearing a bright red jumper with Pooh written across it.
Winnie is made out of really soft fabric and he is lovely to run against your skin as he is so soft and snuggly. Winnie stomach has something inside which causes him to give off a rattling noise when he is moved.
As Sophie never played with Winnie he is still lovely and clean although her can be given a rub over with a damp cloth if needed. Sophie loves all her Winnie characters and asks me who gave her which ones and how old she was which is a bit of a memory test. As a baby Sophie would lay in her cot when she woke on a morning looking at all her soft toys which I think is because they are so brightly coloured.
I think this is a lovely teddy and I was happy when Sophie received this as a gift when she was born, he is soft and cute and has the added feature of being a rattle. A lovely toy for any baby.
My twins were bought this popular Disney character My First Winnie the Pooh when they were born. The Amazon Market Place technical details show it suitable from 10 months but the box on mine clearly said it was suitable from birth 0+, it is the same N4499 detailed in their product specification on Winnie's label so not sure why 10 months. They were also bought the Tigger and Eeyore which were available as part of the lovely set of soft toys.
Winnie the Pooh
He is 28cm tall and made of polyester with a lovely soft silky feel to his fur, ideal for baby hands. It is made by Fisher Price and is of the high quality you would expect from the well known brand. The eyes, nose and mouth are all stitched on to a very high standard as is Pooh's red top with Pooh written across it.
There is a rattle in his tummy which is easy for baby to activate just by moving him gently and adds interest to the toy.
My little ones have enjoyed Winnie being involved in play from a very young age and although Eeyore is by far the favourite with one of my little ones Winnie is also very popular and I can see it remaining popular as they grow up.
The instructions say to surface wash only but sometimes a surface wash just isn't going to cut it. He's been through the washing machine and tumble dryer on low heats and come up as good as new!
As this was a gift I don't know how much my friend paid but Winnie is currently on sale at Amazon Market Place for £13.99 + £2.99 p&p which does seem quite expensive with other similar Winnie the Pooh soft toys available cheaper.
Would I recommend?
If you can find a first Winnie the Pooh at a slighter lower price then he is a much loved character which your child will love and I would recommend it as a good addition to any soft toy collection.
Winnie the Pooh is an inoffensive introduction to cuddly toys, his cartoon stories are gentle and whimsical, he looks cuddly and friendly and despite the fact he often has 'pooh' written on his T-shirt, even this can be a plus as it introduces baby to the odd nature of the English language and the use of h in sentences.
In view of my liking of the character as a positive influence on kids, I bought my little one a Winnie the pooh toy. I bought it from the Disney Store for £20 and it has been well received in our house.
The bear is 44cm tall and 22cm wide, it is fairly heavy meaning baby can rough and tumble using it as a base for their adventures and the soft fur is so lovely to nuzzle up against that it is becoming a sleeping post as much as a cuddly toy.
The bear doesn't look entirely like the tv character, the head is larger and slightly angular which is odd, the shape of the head makes poor old Winnie look slightly older than he is and a little bit chubby, also his t-shirt is beautifully crafted and fits him properly unlike the picture above which is more of a crop top.
The toy is soft, cuddly and everything I wanted in a classic teddy for my little one, it is well designed and washable, so should have a long life in our house.
I liked the fact Winnie the pooh is a classic character, but also that this large bear was so well designed and presented, i've seen poorer versions of this and this does take me back to my own childhood, there are plenty on the shelves in the Disney Store and I would actually say I think this is going to be worth every penny because it will last 3-4 years and its appeal will grow as baby begins to understand the character more.
Well built, inoffensive and lovely (if not slightly aged) to look at, Winnie is a welcome addition to our family.
