Advantages: Lots of colours and noises plus plenty of educational value too!!!

Disadvantages: That creepy voice from the fridge......shudder

As readers of my recent reviews will know, I am a big fan of the Fisher Price brand. In point of fact, I didn't realise we had so many Fisher Price toys until I started writing reviews in this section! This paticular one we got my daughter for her first birthday a couple of months ago.

Daddy is a chef so it makes sense that he would want his little girl to have a kitchen all of her own but thats not why we bought it- it just looked like fun!! It has a refridgerator which can hold a selection of plastic shapes; a hob with frying pan and plastic spoon which sizzles when you put all three together; a sink with a tap which makes a noise like running water and even the noise of a dripping tap when you turn it off; a toaster that doubles as a radio and can play various tunes and an oven which you can open and close and has a rotating drum with numbers on it. In one of the three settings the kitchen has, spinning the drum causes the kitchen to count out the numbers making this educational as well as fun in the trademark Fisher Price style. All of this is built into an arch which has a motion sensor inside which activates a light and makes various noises when you pass through it- which is fun when either of my two cats go underneath. The first few times they went through the arch, they looked most confuddled as to what had just happened.....

The kitchen has two sides- on the reverse of the fridge is a recipe book with plastic pages your child can turn, also a dial that can be turned that is supposed to represent a washing machine and a clock with hands you can turn. Behind the oven is a flower which can be turned and a dial which operates the toaster/radio.

As I have already mentioned, the kitchen has three settings- a learning setting, a music setting and a play setting. It also has three settings of volume control from quiet to medium noise level and slightly louder. It requires 3 x C batteries to operate but these last quite a while and we haven't had to change ours yet. Like the majority of the Fisher Price Laugh And Learn range, this kitchen is educational, colourful and whats more....fun!!! Emilie loves turning the tap on and off and opening and shutting the fridge- which has it's own little song and, quite disturbingly I think, also says the phrase "See you later...refridgerator ha ha ha ha haaaaaa" in what I find is a very creepy voice!!!

Overall though, I would say this was a winner but it does take a fair bit of room so you need quite a bit of free floor space to have it out. It is currently available from Argos for a knock-down price of £29.99 reduced from £64.99!!!! I don't know what we payed for it off-hand but believe it was around the £30 mark! It certainly does pay to shop around!!!!

Just what any child needs to aid their early education and help stimulate their development, the Laugh And Learn kitchen is a welcome addition to our household and keeps our little girl very happy and content indeed!!

Summary: Your child's first kitchen with alll working appliances....
