Advantages: more great learning fun from fisher price
Disadvantages: the reverse is a bit pants
I wanted a "big" present for my little girls first Christmas but didn't want to spend a lot of money. I was shopping in Toys R Us with my friend and spotted the Fisher Price Laugh And Learn Kitchen, and the look of it alone made it hard to resist buying!! It was on offer, i think it was about £40 if i can remember rightly. It hadn't really crossed my mind to get her a kitchen but on having a closer look at this one it didnt take long to make up my mind.
I built the kitchen the night before Christmas and it didn't take long at all, which was brilliant as i was doing it on my own. The kitchen itself is double sided, on the front is a small oven with sink and tap and toaster and at the opposite side there's a cute little fridge. The two are joined together by a small ramp and arch with a light on. On the reverse is a kind of what i would describe as a front room type of thing, theres a radio and shelves with like a bookcase effect.
The kitchen comes with some little accessories, there's a small frying pan, a big chunky spoon, 3 small shapes and some little balls. The shapes go in the front of the fridge where there is a shape sorter and the balls go into the sink and then drop down the "drain" into a little tray at the bottom. When the frying pan goes on the cooking ring it makes a cooking noise. On the side of the arch there is an on/off switch, this turns the light on and off and also when baby crawls over the ramp it sets off a sensor and plays music and the light flashes. My daughter very rarely plays with the opposite side as there really isnt much to do and she got very bored with it.
As with most fisher price toys there are three settings, play, learn and music and all three are great fun. There are some cute little songs and a couple of them are so catchy they'll be in your head for hours!!
This kitchen is great for all aspects of development - physical with the crawling through the arch, mental with shape sorting, role play with cooking, educational with the songs and shape sorting.
My little girl is now 2 and a half and she still enjoys playing with this toy, even though she is a little big to be crawling through the arch she still does! It is fantastic quality, hard wearing and has lasted really well. I have only had to change the batteries once in all this time and it is played with regularly. It is beyond cute and we have both had great fun playing with this toy.
