My son got this phone for his first birthday and I believe it retails for around £18.

It is about the length of an ordinary cordless phone and slightly chunkier. The buttons are large and easy to press and there is an on/off switch at the side which is easy for an adult to operate, but doesn't attract baby's attention and so doesn't get switched off by mistake.

Being a bit of a baby-toy cynic, I have always hated noisy, flashing toys which claim to be able to teach my child something. I haven't noticed kids getting any more advanced since these toys first appeared, so i'm afraid the whole 'learning' thing doesn't hold any water with me.

However, there is no doubting the fact that children are attracted to noisy, flashing toys and this little phone is no exception. it is one of the only presents that my son actually payed any attention to and he likes to press the buttons and watch the screen.

For me, the best thing about this toy is that it is VERY QUIET! i almost can't believe my luck, because it seems to be the perfect compromise. My son gets a chattering, flashing phone and I don't have to take paracetamol because of listening to it shreiking "IT'S NUMBER TIME!".

I am very pleased with this baby toy. It is small enough to lob into the nappy bag if needed, it can be switched off easily, it holds my son's attention for more than a few seconds and it doesn't annoy me.
