      Singing purse

My daughter received this for Christmas when she was 16 months old. Having two older brothers most of her gifts were very pink and girly which was a nice change!

The main item in the set is the handbag. The main body is made of quite thick, pale pink material which is soft to the touch and has a happy embroidered face on the front. It is surface washable. There is also a little loop of strong material which is to attach the keyring to and a large plastic zipper across the lower part which is yellow with blue zip and clicks when moved. The handle of the bag is made of hard purple plastic, it has numbers 1-10 around the grip and an oval in the middle with the Fisher Price logo on, the magnetic clasp is hidden on the inside which keeps the bag closed quite securely. On the top right of this handle is a pink switch with the off switch and three play modes:

      Learning time
      Music time
      Let's play

I was going to list what happens for each mode, but generally, there are some phrases such as 'open', 'close', 'zip', 'hello', 'let's get ready' and some songs which I believe have been specifically made for this item. One of the songs is about colours and one quickly runs through the numbers, but I doubt any baby or toddler could pick up anything useful unfortunately. The only song in music mode is about using some of the items in the purse i.e. 'Ready to go out I'll bring my purse along, get my keys and bracelet, sing a little song, look into the mirror, put some lipstick on, wave and say bye bye, I won't be gone too long'. It starts when the bag is opened and stops when shut, then carries on again when re-opened. The songs are cute, but I was disappointed with the educational claims though. I think it would have been better if the purse were to ask for items i.e. 'mirror' so she could learn the names (obviously with our help) or maybe even - 'the lipstick is pink' which would help with colours. What I did like was the female voice was in English - American accents on British toys really annoy me - and it is very clear.

The base of the bag is rectangular and made of hard plastic. It houses the battery compartment (3 AAA which are included) and also has a two level volume control switch. It also provides a base for the bag to stand on so it doesn't have to be held, although it is a little top heavy with the large handle.

Obviously no handbag is complete unless it's full of useful bits & pieces! This one comes included with a purple mirror, a chunky little lipstick, not sure of the brand but it's in a blue tube and in a bright pink shade, a set of keys (one for the house and the other for the car I assume), a pretty pink bangle which is definitely my daughters favourite item and lastly, a fabric note (as in money) which makes a crinkly noise when handled.

The five items fit nicely into the bag, even though on the inside there is a large plastic back to the zip and the plastic base also takes up a fair bit of room which means there is little space for anything extra. Also the handle, being plastic and quite small is only big enough to clutch, not get an arm or hand through no matter how small.

We've had the purse for nine months now and at the age of two I think my daughter has outgrown it. The phrases it says are not educational or varied enough to keep up her interest. But it's the lack of space in it that makes it redundant. She likes to copy me and needs a bag big enough for her keys, lipstick (maybe three), purse, mirror, bracelet, books, mobile phone, food, cuddly toy .....

The manufacturers age spec is 6 - 36 months and I can only find it on Amazon at present, for around the £20 - £22 mark. I think that is seriously overpriced, I wouldn't want to pay more than £10 for it's limited use. Although there does seem to be a newer and improved model out with a fabric strap and a credit card and mobile phone which replace the lipstick and pound note and it is also cheaper.

Fab first handbag for your princess

My pretty learning purse was bought for my daughters first christmas at 6 months old. I thought she would grow into playing with it. From when she first set her eyes on it she was interested. There are five items included in the bag which include a rattling lipstick, a bracelet, keys, a mirror and crinkly money. She loves the money and will sit and crinkle it for ages, the keys and the bracelet are also brilliant for her teething she will just sit and chew them. The lipstick she rattles and the mirror shes not too interested in just yet. She likes to put the items in the bag and then take them out again. There are 3 modes on the bag, learning music and play my daughters favourite is the music at the moment. There is a zip on the front of the bag which you can move from side to side and it will make a zipping sound. It is probably my daughters favourite toy and the one that she plays with the most and I think there will be many more months that she will get enjoyment from it.

        great value for money

Fisher Price Laugh & Learn Purse

        **WHAT IS IT**

This is a soft purse/bag/handbag for a child to play with so they can pretend to be like their mummy. It is called a purse but I have to say it is the biggest purse I have ever seen its more like a handbag. Along with it there are a few accessories to put into the bag. This toy is suitable for children 6 months to roughly around 36 months.

This bag was bought for my daughter as a present however I chose it as she was constantly playing with my handbag which wasn't very safe. I liked the fact that it came with accessories which were also similar to other things she likes to take of mine that aren't suitable for her to play with.

        **WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE**

The purse is very cute to look at and is pastel pink in colour with a nice smiling face on the front. The face is embroidered onto the bag and is very friendly looking.

At the top there is a handle that is made out of plastic, this is purple in colour. On this handle the numbers 1 to 10 are printed. There is also a pink button to choose different functions (more about that later). There is a yellow and blue zipper that is made out of plastic that moves backwards and forwards plus there is a purple and blue tag as well.

The base of the bag is made out of plastic and if you need to change the batteries this can be done from here. There is a button so you can change the volume up or down on this purse as you please.

Inside the bag there are large chunks of plastic from the zipper and there is a sound box here too so this makes the purse rather heavy to carry however not too heavy for your little ones. It just means you don't have as much space as you would expect to have by looking at the purse when it is not opened.

Overall I think that this purse is very cute to look at. There are several accessories included with this toy they are keys, a bracelet, money (a note), a mirror and a lipstick.

The keys are rather simple and large. On the yellow key-ring there are two one that is pink and the other is green. One key has the shape of a car embedded onto it and the other has a house. I suppose this means that one of the keys is for the house and the other is for the car. I think this is a great toy for a 6 month year old as they can look at the links and explore the keys.

There is a chunky plastic dark pink bracelet which my daughter loves to put on. She will always come and show me her beautiful bracelet and she feels very special wearing it. The bracelet is fully rounded and has no clasps on it so it is very safe for little ones to play with and it is a nice size for them to put on and off their little wrists. When my daughter was 6 months old though she just chewed on this bracelet but again it was safe enough to do so.

Money is included in the form of a note which says 1 on it. So I suppose it's a pound note. To touch this note it is crinkly and I like the texture of it. It is good for babies to discover different textures. On one side of the note it is green and blue and purple design with a picture of a dog the other side is the same colours with a picture of what looks to me like a sunshine. My daughter now at a year and half loves to pay for things with her money. She tells me here's a pound mummy.

The mirror is great for all age groups as the child can look at themselves in the mirror. I feel that this is a very safe cute little mirror to play with.

The lipstick that is included also gives off a soft rattle sound when it is shook. It is rather bulky and easy for a child to hold. My daughter loves putting lipstick on everyone who will let her lol!

        **WHAT IT ALL DOES**

This purse has lots of functions, the accessories included have their own functions uniquely. The purse stores all of these accessories very well when your child wants to put them away.

On the front of the bag there is a tag for younger children to explore and a zip that can be moved backwards and forwards.

As I have mentioned before there is a button to choose different functions. These functions are sound off, the learning time function, the music function and the play time function.

Now the learning time function sings a song about colours when you move the zipper one way and when you move it the other it will say zip. When you open the purse it will sing another song counting numbers. It will learn you child opposites when the open and close the bag (for example the obvious open, close and hello, bye bye)

The music function will make a floating sound when you move the zip. When you open the bag it will sing a song about the accessories that are included with the bag.

The play function then makes more different sounds. When you move the zip it will make the actual sound a zip makes. When the back is opened it will make a magical sound and when you close it sounds like you are closing a bag.

The bag itself opens and closes with the use of a magnet so your child can really catch their fingers unless the literally are going to force the bag closed on their fingers on purpose.

        **MY OPINION**

I feel that this bag has so many uses and I like the way that I can chose different functions if the music gets annoying (parent all know what I mean). Plus I have the option to turn the music off completely and adjust the volume. These are extremely useful features.

The one thing I would say is that it took my daughter ages on how to figure out how to get the bag to stay closed as it popped open on her regularly when she was learning how to use it. This used to frustrate her no end as she wouldn't give up on getting it closed properly, however with practice she has eventually learned how to do this.

I really love the accessories included and they be used with other toys when my daughter is playing.

This toy cost £15 in B&M and I feel that it is great value for money as my daughter likes to carry her own little bag about putting things in and out of it. If feel that you get good value for money with this toy and I am glad that my daughter got it.

It is very durable and the only negative thing I can say about it is that the pastel colours get dirty over a period of time however a damp sponge can sort this out and get it cleaned again.

I suppose this toy really is targeted at girls only which is a shame as I think a boy version would be good too.

          Advantages

          Disadvantages

Great toy to play and learn with!

I am a part time child minder and look after my niece and nephew, while their mum goes out to work three days a week and it's good to keep something in the house for them to play with as they are over around at mine so much.

I bought my niece the Laugh and Learn My Pretty Learning Purse by Fisher Price for her 1st birthday, mostly because she always tries to steal my hand bag and pretend she is carrying it like a grown up, so I got her one of her own so she would stop taking mine.

I seen this handbag in BnM bargains and decided to buy it because it had so much different gadgets and things she could do with it. The bag comes with:
An oversized lipstick- perfect holding size for a baby
A purple framed mirror- Ellie loved this when she was younger, though the gimic has now grown old for her.
A yellow and pink set of keys- which is great as Ellie can bring them with her in her bag and pretend to open the car when mum is bringing her out.
A cute little pink bracelet- Ellie didn't really like the feel of this bracelet on her at first, but now she's getting a bit older she is getting more interesting in dressing up in girly clothes and loves her little bracelet.
An oversized money note with a little dog on it- this is a great wee toy for my niece, when we are out she takes her own money with her.

Apart from all the stuff that comes with the handbag, there are also 3 different modes on it, that teach children numbers, colours, open and closed words and also hello and goodbye worlds.

When Ellie opens the purse it sings a song, or says open or hello depending on what mode it is on. When Ellie closes it, it stops singing, or says closed or goodbye. The lips don't move on it though but there is a speaker box that makes all the noise.

Also there is a zip on it that makes zipping noises, and the handle has numbers 1-10 printed on it.

The hand bag itself is a lovely soft pink with a purple handle. The zip is yellow and the handbag has a lovely happy face on it too. There is a little keychain hanger on the front of it too but we never used it with Ellie as we didn't have any soft keychains.

This toy is suitable for ages 12 months and up.
This toy takes 3 x AAA batteries that are included with it and are hidden in the hard plastic bottom of the toy, they are securely hidden and couldn't be accessed by a child easily as you need to push and pull at it a bit to get into them

I bought this toy for £12.99 about a year ago in a BNM Bargains store in my town, though it should also be available in Toymaster, Argos or online or any good toy stores.

Overall I am glad that I bought my niece this toy, she loves it, she always brings it with her in the car and to grannies house and she puts all her toys and 'fake money' in it so she can be just like her mummy when she's carrying it about. It was a great buy and wasn't too expensive which is always a plus. Great toy for little girls.

            Advantages

            Disadvantages

it's cute but it's not a shape sorter!

My daughter was only nine months old for her first Christmas and as she is the youngest of four finding something new is quite difficult.

Whilst browsing in the Argos book I found the Fisher Price Laugh and Learn My Pretty Learning Purse priced at £19.99. I thought that this toy looked very cute and very different to other toys we had. I had a copy of the Argos Christmas leaflet and noticed that the Purse had been marked down to £16.99 (Dec 2010).
I reserved the purse online and was pleased to find that it had been further reduced to £12.99. The purse comes in a big box with an open front and already includes the 3 AAA batteries needed.

The purse itself is made of pink fabric with a hard plastic base handle and opening. You get some little girly things to go inside your purse and these are replicas of things that Mummy might have in her handbag. On the handle of the purse there is a slider which turns the purse on and off and lets you chose the mode you want.

The items that come with the purse are a small mirror, a pink bracelet, a ring with two keys on it and a rattle in the shape of a lipstick. These are all made of hard plastic and are nice and chunky for little fingers. There is also a fabric pound note which makes a crinkly sound when you scrunch it up. All the items fit inside the purse which is good for when you are trying to tidy up.

The purse clips shut and can be pulled open quite easily without the need to undo a clasp or anything. Depending on which mode you are in different things are said by the purse like open or a jolly little song about opening your purse. When you close the purse it says close or sings a different song or makes a sound. There is a zip on the front of the purse that is hard plastic and the zipper can be pulled back and forth. You can't open the bag using the zipper but it makes a zzzziiiipppp sound or speaks when opened and closed.

The purse is quite heavy due to the hard plastic base that also houses the workings and batteries. The handle is quite small and wouldn't fit over a child's arm which is a shame as my daughter keeps trying to put her hand through the handle. I think toddlers prefer this as it would make the purse easier to carry.

We have had the purse a couple of months now and I can't say it has been a big hit. I have bought the purse out a few times but it doesn't hold my daughters interest for any length of time and is quickly abandoned. She likes to take the items out of the purse if I hold it open but because it is fabric it closes easily and she hasn't quite mastered opening yet. If I hold the purse open she will put the things back in but prefers to throw them or put them into her shape sorter. She likes the little items except the money but they aren't interesting enough on their own as even the rattle doesn't make a big enough noise.
I think if the bag had been made of plastic and was more easily kept open it would be better and also the child would enjoy the sound of the items going into the purse.

I want to recommend this toy because it looks so cute but it just isn't interesting enough and is too awkward for a younger child. The manufacturers recommended aged range is age 6 months and over so I'm hoping that once my daughter is a little older and more mobile she might get more enjoyment from this purse.

My daughter likes to dance to the songs and will take the things out of the bag and attempt to put them back in but it's too heavy for her to carry and she's still only cruising and needs her hands to get around. Despite the cute look of the toy and the girly theme she much prefers a handed down shape sorter without the lid because it's easy to get in and out of and makes a great sound when you shake it about when it got things in it.

              Advantages

              Disadvantages

good toy which does so much my daughter wont want my bag anymore

You will find that most of my reviews at the minute are children's toys this is mainly due to Christmas has just been and gone and they were spoilt to high heaven again.

This little purse was bought for my younger daughter. I feel so sorry for my youngest due to having an older daughter all her toys and clothes are handed down to her so when it comes to Christmas and birthdays we struggle with finding things to buy her. Most children at one year old don't really play with things I have found but my youngest has differed and loves to play with everything including my bag which is why I chose this toy.

This little bag is pink and purple the normal colours for a girl I have found. It looks quite small in the catalogue and never really appealed to me until I saw a family member with one and saw how interested the child was in it.

On the front of the bag is an on off switch that is situated on the clasp of the bag at the top. The first setting is off, the second setting is numbers which is one click across and is shown with the numbers 1,2,3, the bag will then tell you that it is learning time. The learning time option sings a song about colours when the zip is pushed across, this is actually quite a catchy song which will teach the child the words for colours but they will not see any colours so it will not teach them. It also says the word zip so they will learn what a zip is. When you open the clasp it will say open and close, it sings another song involving numbers and counts up to ten but the speed of this song is very fast and think this would take some time for a child to recognise, it also says hello and good bye when it is opened so many times.

The second option is music, this is stated with music notes which is the second click across. This option makes a magical noise when you open and close the zip on the bag, it has two different tones that are made with piano key sounds. When you open the bag it sings a song about the things that are in the bag. I like this song due to my daughter can relate to the things in the bag and will teach her what they are and how to say them, when the clasp is shut the song will stop.

The third option is play. This is stated by a swirl symbol and the bag will say lets play when it is selected this is the third click along on the switch. This option makes the zip make a noise that a zip would make twice then it gives a giggle sound. When you open the bag it gives a magic tinkle sound and when it is shut it makes a click sound as if it is shutting.

The bottom of the bag is a flat hard plastic which is where the batteries can be replaced. On this base on the inside is the speaker which is where all the noises come from. Also on this base is the sound volume which has two settings one louder than the other the quieter one is sufficient when you don't have lots of things going on around, but if all the children are in the room I have had to select the louder option so that my daughter has been able to hear it.

The bag itself is a pink felt material which is soft to touch and has a stitched face on the front which is cute. The zip is under the face and is made from a yellow and blue plastic. This zip is easy to push across for the child. Next to the zip is a loop which you are able to hang the keys from, this requires and adult to attach them because my older children haven't been able to manage it.

The handle of the bag is plastic and solid this is where the option buttons are. In the centre of this handle is the clasp this has a button that is pressed when the bag is opened and closed which allows it to make the noise and the clasp has a magnet in it that holds it together. The magnet is not too strong so the child can open and close the bag easily.

Inside the bag is a pretend lipstick which has a blue handle and red lipstick. I don't think this resembles a lipstick very well but and adult is able to work out what it is. This is a good size for the child to hold and place in and out of the bag. There is a crinkly sounding money inside that is made from material. This has the number one on it and a different picture each size with different colours one green one blue. It is very large and child friendly. There is a set of two keys on a ring which are large and made from good quality plastic so they are safe for the child. There is a little purple mirror that the child can see their reflection very well inside, this is a good size for the child to hold, and is made from safety mirror plastic. There is also a pink bracelet inside which is easy for the child to slip on and off their hand and is thick plastic so it can not harm the child in any way. All these accessories fit in the bag and it is able to close easily. I have found that most of these toys don't stay in the bag but my daughter walks around with it lovely.

The only thing that I think should be different is that the handle isn't able to go over the child's hand they can only hold it. It may be for safety reasons I assume but my daughter would love to be able to wear it on her wrist when she is carrying it.

This was priced at £14.99 and I haven't seen it cheaper anywhere else. This is a well made toy and has been played with a lot since Christmas. It is a large bag but it is easy to carry. It has a lot of options that do lots of different things to keep the child amused. It has numbers written on the handle too and the child may learn some things from this toy just not everything. It is cute looking and soft. It is easy to use and has lots of interesting accessories for the child. This has been a good investment for my daughter and it is reasonably priced. This is able to be bought for a child 6 months upward and would recommend that if you are purchasing it you may get more value for money if you buy it for this age. It is a lovely girly toy and will advise this as a buy it is worth it.

              Advantages

              Disadvantages

With the abundance of baby and toddler toys on the market, this one is not value for money.

My daughter had this bought for her as a gift for her first Christmas and I think it is probably her least favourite toy. I have to say I was not impressed from the moment I unwrapped it for her.

The purse itself is very stiff and the bottom of it on the inside has quite a bulky mechanism for the various sound effects that it makes, so there isn't much space in there and its not very functional for a baby to play with as it is difficult to open. It contains a number of purse type items - a big plastic lipstick, mirror, bracelet a few keys and fake crinkly money. The various items are quite sweet but unfortunately they haven't kept her interest at all.

The purse plays little tunes, but some of these are a bit indistinguishable and I don't think they're as catchy as others on some of her other toys.

In my opinion, the whole thing just isn't very well made. I have already explained the purse, but also for example, the money note had spare threads hanging at each corner that hadn't been cut off when the money was sewn together. I did think, well, if its only around a fiver it would be okay and other babies might be more interested, but I was shocked to see that it sells for at least £15, if not more. It is definitely not worth this much money.

Another winning toy from the house of Fisher Price

This is another educational toy in the excellent Fisher Price range aimed at girls from the age of twelve months onwards. That said, it hasn't stopped my nephew picking it up and walking around with it whenever he shares time with my daughter, Emilie.

Basically it is a singing handbag with different settings that make it do different things. The zip on the front either makes a zzzzzzziiiiipppp noise, says open or close or sings a song depending on what mode you choose. On music setting, the handbag or purse (as they have chosen to call it- personally I think it is more of a handbag!) also sings a charming little song every time you open it up. This song details some of the toys that you find inside also like an inventory and is very catchy to the point where I often find myself singing along. Not sure what Freud would say about that but there you have it.....

Inside you get the following toys; a little compact mirror, a pretend lipstick, a pound note with a likeness of the laugh and learn puppy that I previously reviewed on it, a set of keys- one marked with a house and one with a car and a little plastic bracelet. There is also room to fit a few other bits and pieces and my daughter has taken to keeping her mobile phone in it. No, never fear- I've not bought her her own phone just yet!! She can just about talk and hasn't really started stringing sentences together yet!! No, this is a broken mobile that my brother-in-law gave her to play with that no longer works. She does not yet quite pay much attention to it but she does like putting it in her musical bag! Come to think of it, most of what she likes to do with this toy, apart from carry it around with her, is put stuff in and take it out again. Whether or not this toy will maintain her interest for years to come is possibly doubtful but she certainly enjoys playing with it at the minute!

The Fisher Price Laugh And Learn Pretty Purse is priced at around the £15 mark but I have seen it for £11.99 recently in Argos. I would recommend checking on Ebay if you are interested though as I am not convinbced it is worth paying full price for it. It comes, as a lot of these toys do now, with volume control too- it has two settings, one slightly quiter than the other and takes 3 x aaa batteries.

Certainly it keeps my daughter quiet and those songs it sings are going through my head even as I type...lol
