Advantages: Looks lovely
Disadvantages: Price, mat too thin, too high.
I was given this for our first baby, when I saw the box I thought it looked great. It is made by Fisher Price who are a trusted brand, it looked fun and colourful with many activities.
It is a circular mat with bright animals on and 3 tubes that make arches connected at the top. It comes with a musical bear with a flashing nose and rattle bit in his belly. There is a fabric lion and monkey that can be positioned on the arches, 3 plastic animals, a mirror and two rattles.
It goes together easily and all the toys can be hung or attached to any of the many loops that are on the arches. It looks great and I thought it would bring hours of entertainment.
But the arches are too high, so the toys are either out of reach or too close to the baby, the 3 plastic animals don't do anything, I'm not sure if they are designed to be teethers but my son never had any interest in them. The two rattles are good and did provide some fun but usually when they weren't attached to the arches and when my son was just sitting in his bouncer. Again the two fabric animals don't serve much purpose, they can either be attached to the arches or they slot in either side of the bear. The mirror is good as babies always find these fascinating and the bear has been used alot both on and off the mat as it plays several tunes.
It is a good sized mat and the toys are of good quality. A huge negative though is that the mat itself is very thin, there is barely any padding and with laminate floor we always had to lay a blanket down first.
It looks great and for the price (around £60) it really should be. But it just doesn't function as well as it should. The height of the arches means it never gets played with to its full potential and its far too thin to put a baby straight on to.
In comparison I bought a play mat for £10 in a new years sale for my daughter and its the perfect height, she has just started being able to bat the toys and it very thickly padded and comes with music, mirror and toys, and its much better than the Fisher Price one.
