Fisher Price Turtle Gym
Advantages: colourful - lights and sounds
Disadvantages: a bit flimsy
Shortly after I had baby number four I got out all the baby toys from my previous children. These toys included a baby gym that my two year old promptly decided was a climbing frame and broke it into three pieces.
I searched everywhere to find another one the same but toys r us only stock the one I had with a play mat which I didn't need and didn't want to pay for. I didn't want to pay too much as I know this will be my last baby and these toys are only needed for a few months at the most. I found a travel playmat in Asda for £15 but this only had three soft toys hanging on it and the gym and mat where all one piece. Everything else I found seemed to be in excess of £35 and some were even £60 or £70 which is just ridiculous. I had only paid £10 for the original one and it has been used by three children and still looked new until it was demolished!
Eventually I found the Fisher Price 2 in 1 Turtle Gym in Argos priced at £19.99 (April 10) and it seemed to be just what I was looking for and also had the potential to be sold on once we no longer needed it.
It was fairly easy to build and just had five pieces that all clicked together and a bolt that fits through the back. The gym can be used as a traditional gym that is placed over the baby or if you adjust the legs you can place the gym on the floor for when baby is having 'tummy time'.
There is a big green turtle at the apex of the arch and this has a mirror on it which is best used during tummy time. It does tilt for baby to see into it when it is in the upright position but I'm not sure the angle is quite right. There is a small lock so you can fix the position.
There are two toys that hang from holes in the legs of the arch and one hangs down from the turtle. The toy that hangs from the turtle is fixed to a switch that activates lights and music when the toy is touched or pulled. There is a switch on the back to alter the volume and to switch off this function. The toys are made of hard plastic and are shaped like a frog, a chick and a snail. The snail has coloured balls that roll around inside its shell, the frog has fabric pieces on its sides and the chick has coloured shapes hanging from it like a key ring.
The whole thing is very brightly coloured and very nice looking and the textures and colours are obviously there to encourage your baby to reach and play with the toy.
On the whole I would say I am quite happy with the toy, I certainly wouldn't have paid any more for it but I think it is fairly priced. The pieces are of a good quality and what you would expect of Fisher Price. The only thing I dislike about the gym is that it seems quite flimsy and it is not as sturdy as the old one we had. Apart from this it is a really nice colourful toy that will be inviting for baby.
Summary: a nice toy for baby
