From the time my eldest son was a year old we have owned Little people sets and he has spent many hours playing with them and now my youngest son who is 17 months has begun to enjoy them too. It is funny to see them at different stages. My eldest interacts with them and plays out little scenes where as my youngest son just likes to fill them with animals and people and then just tip them all out again. I had noticed he like cars and would copy his older brother in pushing them round the floor. Something I have noticed with the Little people sets is you don't get many vehicles so for Christmas I came across this car wash gift set in Tesco's and thought it would be great for my youngest son to add to their Little people collection and asked a relative to buy it for him. This particular Little peoples set is a bit different to the others as there isn't a particular big item like with the zoo, ark, house, farm etc. This set is all about cars, diggers and construction and a fun car wash with petrol pump along with a range of little people in builder's uniform as well. There are eight little people in total and it comes with seven vehicles. Four of the vehicles are construction ones. You get a fork lift, bulldozer, dump truck and a lift and load truck and these come with a round ball which is like a big boulder and two green square boxes different sizes which sit nicely on the forklift. The bulldozer is the only one that has sound to it so you can imagine this is of course is my son's favourite! It makes a beeping nice like it is backing up or a noise like it is destroying something. The bulldozer ball on the end can be moved so you child can attempt to destroy that building. My eldest son has a lot of fun trying to knock down his wooden buildings he has made from our wooden building blocks we have. The fork lift moves up and down making it easy for unloading. All the construction vehicles do something to make it more fun for your child to play with. The other three vehicles are cars, one is a breakdown recovery car which has a black hook on the back so one of the other two cars can be hooked onto it and driven away. There are also two other smallish cars a yellow and a green one. The yellow car has a bonnet that can be opened to reveal a sticker which is an engine. Unfortunately we have lost the green car, it will probably be under something that is often how we lose things in our house and they return three months later from nowhere!! It was roughly the same size as the yellow car but I can't remember if the bonnet opened on it or not, sorry. And last it comes with the carwash! The carwash is the largest piece in the set but you can't class it as the same as the zoo and farm sets it is still not that big. It measures roughly about 22cms across, 17cms in height and 9cms in depth. It has a small petrol pump that is on one of those pieces that looks likes the fences in other sets that attaches to the side. The actually car wash screen you push your car through is made from pieces of long thin material which means there are no shape pieces. The petrol pump has a small hose on it that can be put into the small hole on all the vehicles to fill them up. Both my sons have had lots of enjoyment out of this, although my youngest son hasn't been able to actually but the hose in the hole like my eldest. This set is no different to any other Little people items the characters are large and chunky making it very easy for little hands to get hold of. There are no small parts to worry about a young child getting near their mouth. I find both of my sons have enjoyed a good chew on one of the little people when they were younger! Fisher price have made a fun safe product for all young children to enjoy. The age it is recommended is for one year olds and above I would agree with that. My eldest son is now three and still likes them and I can see him enjoying them for another year or two to come. Both my sons have fully enjoyed this set since we have had it and think it is a great addition to their little people collection. We often find the bulldozer in the farm and all sorts of funny things. But all the people and other items are compatible for all the sets which is great. I have found the Little people sets have really improved my eldest son's imagination which has come on leaps and bounds. At Christmas we managed to get this at a great price of £20 which was a real bargain. It is currently (Feb 2011) on Amazon for £29.99 which I think is still a good price and would be happy to pay that. Little people are great for the development of young children and this set is just another great example of that.
