      Advantages

      Disadvantages

A fantastically well made toy that children will come back to again and again.

We bought this toy almost 3 years ago for my daughters first Christmas. She was 7 months old at the time and we thought she would absolutely love it! As she lifted the lid we waited with baited breath for the fit of giggles all the reviews had assured us would be inevitable.....but we got nothing. She didn't even flinch! We put the frog back in the box and lifted it again. The frog lept out, and once again my daughter had no reaction at all.

All in all it was a big disappointment.....initially. As she was so unimpressed with it we didn't bother playing with it for a couple of months. When we got it out again it was a different story altogether. She thought it was hilarious and it soon became one of her favourite toys. All manner of things were put inside to jump out and the frog itself soon became one of the toys she liked to take to bed with her.
I think in her case the manufacturers recommended age of 9 months was spot on!

We are now enjoying it a second time round with my son, who is now 10 months. He finds it even funnier than his sister did, and together they are in fits of giggles whilst playing with it. My son often gets so excited he pulls the frog out and waves it around before we've even had chance to shut the lid.

Three years on the toy still looks like new. The 'box' the frog jumps out of is a plastic cylinder covered with padded material. The lid is also plastic with a cotton cover designed to look like a lily pad. The petals of the lily pad are made of a crinkly material. If the lid is pushed too far back it comes off, but is easily attached again. The inner of the cylinder has to be pushed right down until it clicks in order for the frog to jump out, and this cannot be done until the lid has been pulled back far enough to allow the platform to be reset. This means that little ones are unable to play with it by themselves but will need help of an older sibling/adult.
The quality of the toy is fantastic, the frog itself is well made with a nice smiley face, a little bell inside its tummy and a squeaker in its head.

I have found that although this isn't a toy that a child will become engrossed in for any length of time (such as a shape sorter), it is a toy that they will return to frequently. It is also a fantastic instant distraction when a child is hurt or a tantrum is brewing! A word of warning though...children also like to experiment with putting different objects in which can be somewhat hazardous at times!

      Advantages

      Disadvantages

Worth it, just to see their little faces

      ************Product Information***************
The Galt Frog in a Box is a modern version of the very traditional Jack in the Box
The 'box', measuring approx 20cmx19cmx15cm, is a cylinder, made from blue plastic. It is covered in a padded blue material, decorated with bouncing frogs and vibrant flowers. You lift the lid, which is a white crinkly lily pad and put the frog, inside the 'box' by pushing down the centre. Replace the lid and lift it up again and out bounces 'froggy' (as we like to call it). It is not very heavy so is not going to cause any expletives if dropped on your foot or thrown at someone's head!

It is described as being suitable from 9 months; however I think that it can be used as soon as your baby starts to enjoy peek-a-boo type games. We have been having fun with this since my daughter was about 6 months old.

It can currently be purchased off Amazon for £17.99 plus £5.99p+p. I was lucky enough to receive this as part of a bundle of second hand toys off e-bay, for which I paid £5. So e-bay is definitely worth a look.

      *********Developmental Advantages*************
This toy helps to develop babies' concept of 'object permanence'. In other words they learn that even if an item is out of sight, it still exists. This generally happens some time between 4 and 12 months. They also love the element of surprise. It is lovely to see my daughter, who is now 1, giggle when 'froggy' jumps out. She goes to get him again and tries to push him back down. She just loves it and will play again and again.
If I had purchased this brand new, we would have definitely had our money's worth by now!
      *************Small Disadvantage***************
Babies will not be able to operate it themselves. You have to push the middle down quite hard to make sure the frog stays down and then pull the lid back far enough so that the middle 'pops' back up, otherwise he wont jump out. This could cause some frustration if your baby was determined to play by themselves. I don't consider it a huge disadvantage, though as it is a good toy to get down on the floor and 'play with' your baby, as the reaction your baby gives is so amusing to watch.

      ***********Durability and Reliability***************
As I purchased this second hand, I had to ensure it was clean. This was not a problem, the cover came off and I hand washed it in washing powder, reshaped it and dried it out overnight and slipped it back over the box.

Apart from some fading to the material this toy is as good as new. It is fairing well, considering its regular use and some rough handling from my 5 year old boy. We have owned it for about 8 months now. I am not sure how long the previous owner had it for. I expect this to last some time yet and will pass it on to a friend when my daughter has outgrown it.

      I would highly recommend.

an excellent toy and very pretty

The galt frog in a box is the cutest little toy ever.
We first saw this at baby clinic and my little girl just loved it.

When we started attending the local mother and baby again they had this toy there too and my litt e girl spent nearly the whole hour just playing with this one toy.

to look at its very pretty, lots of pictures and colors for baby to look at,soft and squishy so baby doesnt hurt them selves and a big flower on the lid like a lilly pad.
as soon as you open the lid the little green frog comes jumping out at you BOO!
how it works- inside the box there is a little tray that you push down and it stops on a catch on the inside. You place the froggy inside and close the lid.
when the lid is then opened by baby the catch inside is released and pop goes froggy and baby giggles with delight :o)

its an excellent toy and very baby friendly. even the little frog is soft and squishy and the perfect size for a child.
