Forget Robodog, this Little Puppy is Bundles of Fun!

I vividly remember as a child that all of our local toy shops stocked walking and noise making furry animals. They were produced by various manufacturers, however they were all rather similar. They came in many forms such as pigs, rabbits, cats and dogs and had a little battery pack and switch on their tummy. When activated they would walk along the floor, jump, twitch a nose or wag a tail and make the relevant animal noise.

My little boy is almost two and he simply adores animals, just as I did as a child. One particular favourite of his are dogs, or as he refers to them "Bow-wows!" I was therefore determined to buy him a walking, barking dog just as I had when I was young.

My search was a rather difficult one, in fact I quite simply searched and searched through endless toy shops and websites to no avail. I had come to the conclusion that toys like this had perhaps been replaced over the years with the robotic pets that now fill our toy stores. That is until I remembered Hamleys and promptly logged on to their website to find immediately the toy I had been looking for.

The Labrador Puppy by Hamleys, or the Playful Puppy as it is packaged, is priced at £16.50. Delivery from the Hamleys website is currently £4.95, though any orders over £50 are delivered free of charge. I made my order up to £50 quite easily with so many wonderful toys to choose from.

Though priced a little higher than those I had as a child, which were then considered pocket money toys, the Labrador puppy is a rather charming little dog with lots of character. His fur is ultra soft and he sports a lovely felt collar around his neck. The Hamleys material tag is situated on one of his hind legs. On his undercarriage is a battery compartment and switch.

This toy requires two C sized batteries which are not included upon purchase but can be purchased from Hamleys at £3.26. In our house however we use rechargeable batteries as there are simply far too many toys to keep up with demand!

The age guidance for this product is 3 years plus due to small parts which must refer to the eyes and nose, or maybe the battery compartment and switch. My little boy is always supervised when playing and is not one to chew on small objects, so I was happy to let him enjoy this toy as soon as it arrived.

When activated this rather endearing little dog walks along the floor, wags his tail, sits up and barks, his little mouth opening as he does so.

My son is absolutely besotted with this toy and follows him around with a huge smile on his face. The Labrador puppy is sure to get him giggling time and time again and although it is not an educational toy as such, I still believe it to be a valuable addition to his toy box.

I would most certainly recommend this little dog for any little boy or girl with a love of animals!
