Brilliant little house, my daughter's first doll's house and with this, I haven't felt the need to buy a bigger one. The house has a carry handle on the top which is very handy, and when you open it up, you have a two storey house with kitchen, lounge, bedroom and bathroom, 2 girl figures, beds, chairs and table, a dresser and 3 animals in the little garden at the side. It's a perfect size for the intended age range of 18 months up, my daughter received for her first birthday and she loved it instantly. When folded up, it's still substantial but can be neatly put on a shelf with all the pieces inside and does look quite nice and cute. We regularly add other Happyland figures to this set when we're playing with it. As with other Happyland sets, the doors start falling off regularly, which can get annoying when you're asked to put them back on all the time, but my girls spend hours playing with this house. Although there's only 2 figures, the little animals are a cute addition, with a rabbit, cat and squirrel, so you can put them in the cat's bed space in the kitchen, or as my girls do, in the bath, sit them on the toilet (!!) or hide in the little den at the side of the garden. It's in traditionally girly colours, mainly pink with green, and both figures are girls, so definitely aimed at girls.
I think Happyland is very overpriced so generally only buy sets when they are half price, I definitely wouldn't pay £50 for this, but it's a really good set at £25.
We have been lovers of happyland in our household for a few months now and my daughter has got a number of the items and loves all the figures and carries them around, but I was after something a little more. If I'm honest I was looking for something like a castle or some sort of bigger building other then the little shops she had. So I went to ELC to have a look around and I spotted cherry Lane Cottage straight away, I just felt like it was perfect it had exactly what I wanted being a bigger item but at the same time, just made me thin of all the role play you can have with a house. I've always been a strong believer of kids having toys where they can role play a normal every day home scenario and this toy does exactly that.
I love the detail of all the happyland items, ok there not intricate hand painted sort of artwork but for a children's toy they are detailed and represent really well exactly what they are meant to be. The figures are all made from a rubber material which are really strong and versatile. My little girl is only 15 months and she carries them around and quite often puts them in her mouth, and I was really concerned but none of the colour came off and I was really pleased that you really couldn't tell they had been chewed. The house is plastic but such great quality, it opens in the middle and opens really easy which is sometimes a big issue with children's toys as you want them to be able to open them by themselves. I love all the items you get with the cottage including the beds, chairs and table. It really is a great set, and I'll be honest I do love ELC because they very often have sales on and I was lucky enough to get the cottage for only £20 what a great deal for such a great toy. Well worth buying and I will be honest the only disadvantage is that I believe it is quite girly, compared to a lot of happyland toys which are very unisex.
We discovered the Early Learning Centre Happyland range when my daughter was around 18 months old and the house has gradually been taken over by more toys from the range as she and her brother have got older!!
For those not familiar with the range, it includes buildings, furniture, characters, animals and vehicles, with bright colourful designs made from sturdy plastic which is fairly robust so can withstand the bumps and bashes it gets from younger children.
The Happyland Cherry Lane cottage cottage is described as the 'perfect first dolls house for your toddler'. It has a carry handle and opens out on a hinge, has two storeys and comes with 2 dolls, 3 pets and 2 beds, a dressing table, a table and 2 chairs. There is also a tree house in the garden with a removable top.
It is aimed at 18 months + which I think is about right. My son and daughter still love playing with it now, aged 5 and 3 and as its fairly portable with the carry handle its a useful toy for them to take around the house or if we go away. It's a great set for children who like imaginative play and is nice in that there are no batteries needed so it's silent too!!
It retails at £35 so is quite expensive but the Happyland range is quite often on sale with as much as 50% off at times - so is excellent value when on offer.
I would recommend this range to anyone looking for well made toys for imaginative play.
