~*~ Happyland Fairy Toadstool Cottage Playset ~*~
Happyland is a range of toys from the Early Learning Center , available from the high street stores and online , ELC products are now also available in Mothercare, Boots, Debenhams, and various other retailers .
Happyland is designed for toddlers, this particular set is recommended from 18 months.
The R.R.P is £20. but often ELC have 20% off making it £16 which is great value.
~*~ What's in the Set? ~*~
The main part of the set is obviously the toadstool cottage, but the set also includes 2 fairy characters, a table complete with fairy food and a leaf shaped chair.
The toadstool when closed measures approximately 30 cm wide, 23 cm high and has 20 cm depth , to open it is a simple click, hold on to the tiny worm wiggling up on the roof while pulling the front open. The toadstool splits in half and opens up fully to create 2 play areas.
When the toadstool is being opened it magically makes a sound , like a fairy wand casting a spell.
Once opened the front of the cottage is the front room with opening front door and rug on the floor , and a bedroom on top which is big enough to put the leaf chair in as a bed . The other side is the kitchen, this has a rug on the floor and a dresser fixed to the wall .
There is a mini toadstool with small opening which will fit a Happyland pet.
There is a carry handle on the top of the toadstool , and it's easy for a toddler to carry.
~*~ Accessories ~*~
The 2 fairies that come with the set are typical of all Happyland figures they are a molded 1 piece figure made of hard plastic. There are no breakable bits and they are perfectly safe for a toddler who might put them in their mouth.
The table has petal tablecloth and 3 red apples firmly fixed to the top. The chair or is it a lounger or a bed , I was never quite sure but it's in a shape of a leaf and fits a fairy on by lying her down.
~*~ The Doors ~*~
Anyone that has had any Happyland toys will tell you the doors fall off , all the time. It is the only niggle I have with Happyland as I think its a fantastic range of good quality toddler and upwards toys, but it does get very tedious putting the same door back on the same toy 34 times in a hour . You have 2 options so not to send yourself mad , 1 teach your child to do it themselves , or 2 play without the door.
My daughter could put the doors back on by the time she was about 2 1/2 , as they are designed to come off easily they do go back on easily too.
I did speak to a lady in the ELC and she said it was due to safety and that as the products are made for under 3's the doors have to be pulled off easily by a toddler rather than the risk they could be snapped off and cause injury if they were more firmly fixed . It all sounded plausible enough to me and it didn't stop further purchases of Happyland either.
~*~ In Play ~*~
My daughter has always loved playing with small figures , she has a vivid imagination so anything small enough to fit in her hands that she can move about easily has always been her favourite kind of toy. She will spend hours making up stories and adventures or copying stories from books or cartoons. Even now at 6 years old she still plays with her Happyland, mostly the people have now been swapped for Lalaloopsy dolls, but the fairies still come to visit them. The batteries in the toadstool are still the ones that came with the toy despite 1000's of magical openings.
~*~ Thoughts ~*~
This set has certainly had some play over the years we have owned it , bought over 4 years ago and still being played with today the set is in perfect condition. Nothing is damaged despite lots of play and being chucked in toy boxes, and bags.
We first started buying Happyland for our son 10 years ago , we still have all that going strong , in fact the batteries in the Happyland police car and ambulance are still going , these were a 1st birthday present to my son , who will be 11 in November ! Even I can not believe they are still going but they are, nearly 10 years of play not from just my children , but all their friends too , and being set off in the toybox all the time which just goes to show these toys are built to last.
I don't feel a star should be taken off for the doors as they are a safety aspect.
