Advantages: Its Cute, Alfie Loves It, Looks Exactly The Same As The TV Show Character, Range Of Sounds
Disadvantages: Hard To Wash & Price!
If you have a child or know someone that does then the likelihood of you having to watch In The Night Garden when you are around them is quite high because babies and toddlers seem to be addicted to it. My little brother Alfie is only 4 and 1/2 months but he is no exception and he will sit there for hours watching this on TV so with that in ind me and my mom decided to buy him the talking characters to play with starting with this "Talking Makka Pakka" who is a character from the show. I had originally planned to buy him an ordinary none talking Makka Pakka but as I couldnt find any I thought this would be just as good if not better - the only thing is that this is designed for children of 18 months an upwards but now Ive bought it and Alfie has used it I think it is suitable for babies of any age.
This toy is actually a lot smaller than some people will imagine but Alfie manages to grab hold of him fine and he is made of really soft light brown material making it perfect to cuddle up to which is what Alfie does with him at the moment. I honestly dont know how to describe what the toy looks like as in all honesty I have no idea what it is supposed to be but it does look exactly like the character from the TV show and if your child is an In The Night Garden fan - which every baby seems to be they will absolutely love this. The sound box is inside Makka Pakka's stomach but it is well padded so even if your child is throwing this about I dont think it can be damaged easily. Now although this is quite small I consider that to be an advantage as it can be taken out in a pushchair or a car seat with ease so this toy travels really well. I havent found anything on this toy which can be considered as hazardous and there are no small parts which is why I think this toy is suitable for any age - until they grow out of it anyway.
The sound box has 5 different sounds overall which are "memorable" quotes from Makka Pakka's character in the show like: Mikka Makka Moo, Agga Pang & Hun Dum which I have to say do sound like total gibberish but Alfie thinks they are so funny which I guess is the main thing. To make this toy talk you do need to press down quite firmly on the stomach which Alfie hasnt grasped yet so we have to do it but my friends little girl also has one of these (she is nearly 1) and she can do it easily so maybe that is why this toy is recommended for older children as younger ones will find it harder to press the sound box. The only issue I have with this toy is that there is no off button so sometimes the toy will be gibbering away by itself at the bottom of the toy box but the noises arent too loud so it shouldnt be a major problem.
This toy does require 2 x AA batteries which came with the toy when I bought it and we have had it about a month so far with no need to change the batteries. I have had a look at some other reviews on Dooyoo for this toy regarding the battery life and it seems that they last quite a long time even if your child plays with this a lot so you wont have to change the batteries very often. Another slight problem with this is that obviously you cant wash it in the washing machine as it will damage the sound. Alfie hasnt got his toy very dirty yet so that hasnt been a problem for us but I reckon the material will make it quite hard to clean by hand when he does get a bit filthy.
Overall Alfie really likes this toy and I think his interest in it will grow even more when he can actually press the sound button himself. This is quite a basic toy that this good for cuddles and the occasional noise but that really is it - this isnt going to be very educational I dont think but then again thats not why I bought it. I think this toy is suitable for babies of any age but you will need to press the toy for the noises if your baby is quite young. Im going to give it 4 out of 5 stars overall because it is very cute, Alfie loves cuddling it and as he loves the TV show he absolutely adores the noises that this makes BUT its going to be hard to clean and it is very expensive for what it is - in this case I think you are paying for the brand name more than anything.
This toy cost me around £18 from amazon but I do highly recommend you buy it for any child that loves the show because I can guarantee they will love this - the only question is how long will the appeal last?
Thanks For Reading
