I alwyas wanted a gloworm when I was little but I never got one so I was very excited when my little girl got one this past christmas from my best friend. I actaually think that she bought it more for me than for my little girl but I have been gracious and given the toy to my little girl.

A Gloworm is a childrens toy from the makers Playskool and is an actual worm, but it's a very cute worn with a smiling face and big bright blue eyes. You can get the Gloworm in blue for a boy but as I have a little girl my friend bought me the pink version. The gloworm has a green fabric body and is wearing a pink hooded top with cute little ties on either side of the head to give it quite a night time hat look. The battery pack is located in the middle portion of the gloworm but there is enough padding around it to make this quite a cuddly toy and one that my little girl loves to snuggle up with at night.

This is definitely a night time toy and there are two reasons why. Firstly as you would expect from a glow worm this toy lights up. When you press the little picture on her tummy her whole face lights up a lovely orange colour. I think it's quite a soothing colour and provides a great night light for your baby when you are trying to put her to bed. It's quite comforting to have a friend in your crib with you who will light up and provide you with a bit of light when you are going to bed. THe button is quite easy to press and my little girl got the hang of it in a few days so she takes great pleasure in pressing the button again and again to see her face light up. The light doesn't last that long. You can switch a button on the battery pack to change the worm to glow mode where it will glow for a bit longer but I prefer it just glowing for a few moments as sometimes this is all my little girl needs.

The second reason why this is a great bedtime toy is that the gloworm plays lullabies when you press the button too. There are various tunes that it plays, rock-a-bye baby, frere jacques, being a few of them and are songs designed to put your baby to sleep. Whenever my little girl hears them she puts her hands to the side of her head to indicate that these are bedtime songs. My little girl has now come to associate seeing the gloworm with bedtime as I keep this toy solely in her bedroom and it only comes out at night so it is a good way to train then and introduce something fun and loved at bedtime to make the bedtime process a little easier. The gloworm takes 3 AA batteries and these are safely secured in a battery pack at the back of the toy hidden by the top the gloworm is wearing and secured with some velcro.

In 2003 the gloworm won the Toy Awards Nappa Gold Winner. I have seen this on Amazon on sale for approximately £17.99 but I'm sure you can get it cheaper other places but is definitely a toy I recommend.
