When Lauren went from her cot bed into a big girls beds, her sleeping pattern seemed to digress and she wouldn't go to sleep without the light on. I decided to buy her a little lamp which was the shape of Sleeping Beauty but I went into her room one night and found her cuddling this so I had to buy this.
I purchased this from Debenhams and it cost me £20, which is a little more than I would normally like to pay however a friend had recommended it. It is available from most toy stores and online from places such as Amazon and eBay.
Kitty is quite big, the photo doesn't really do her justice, she measures around 30cm in height and at the widest point of her head, 25cm in diameter. There is no mistaking this is Hello Kitty, she is brilliant white, with a cute pink tummy which is designed to look like her dress and on her head there is a big pink bow which is made from plastic, this is the part which lights up. Apart from the bow, Kitty is really soft to touch and very cuddly.
To make Kitty light up, all that you need to do is gently squeeze her hand, as I mentioned earlier, her bow on her head will then light up and stay on for 15minutes. You don't have to apply too much pressure to her hand to operate the light and Lauren can easily do this herself. I like that only her hand operates the light, if it was any other part of her body (such as her tummy), I would worry that Lauren may lie on her in the night and turn the light on by mistake (and possibly waking her up).
Lauren is a huge fan of Hello Kitty so she instantly fell in love with this, she seemed really impressed with the fact that Kitty lit up but the true test came that night when we went to bed and she wanted me to leave the landing light on. When I explained that she was a big girl now and talked her through how to make Kitty light up, she seemed ok and let me leave her - ever since then, this has worked its magic and even 4years later, Lauren still sleeps with it.
Kitty takes two AA batteries which are locates at the base of her back, despite using this on a daily basis, these do last for several months before they need replacing. The recommended age range is 3years plus.
I would definitely recommend Kitty, Lauren still sleeps with her now and it really helped Lauren sleep at night (and reduced my electricity bill) so this gets 5 out of 5 stars.
