A cute mobile ideal for tavelling

My daughter is now at the age where she is becoming incredibly alert of the things around her. Because both sets of her grandparents live over 100 miles away in opposite parts of the country it means that she is in the car quite a lot and in order to keep her amused we wanted a toy which would keep her attention. After looking at various products in the end we opted for the Hugs & Kisses Travel Mobile. We already have the Hugs & Kisses Baby on Board Sign so we liked the idea that this would be matching with the travel mobile.

After browsing on the Babies R Us website we decided we would pick it up later in the week from our nearest store which is around 20 miles away in Peterborough (I used the click and collect service).

      *~* What is it *~*

The Hugs & Kisses Travel Mobile is a toy design to keep the child amused whilst travelling in the car. It can however be placed on a smooth surface, such as a high chair tray or bumbo tray to entertain a child.

      *~* Packaging *~*

The Travel Mobile can be found with all the other car travel accessories in Babies R Us such as window visors, seat belt rests etc. It comes in a clear, plastic type bag bound in baby pink with a pink rope like handle. You can clear see what the item is through the bag. It is attached to a piece of coloured cardboard and the bag is opened with a velcro fastened flap at the back, this helps to store it should you not be using it.

      *~* The Mobile *~*

Once you take it out of its carry case the Travel Mobile is already constructed so you don't need to put anything together (phew!). The pink suction cup is quite large in size and will stick to a window or soft surface easily. The attached arm of the mobile is covered in a soft, velour like material. The arm of the mobile is bendy and incredibly flexible so you can position the mobile exactly how you like whether you want it facing towards the baby or further away it is light and bendable. The attachments all hang from a lovely soft, multicoloured pink flower - the petals are a range of colours including patterned fabric which adds a shabby chic touch to the flower. The attachments hang from the petals of the flower. The attachments are all filled with a soft foam or other similar material making them squishy to the touch, some also have a bell, jingle and crinkle effect making them quite entertaining to an alert baby. The attachments are a little house, doll, heart and bird they are all made from the pink shabby chic material. In the middle of the large flower there is a mirror where the baby can look at themselves in.

What I like about the mobile is that there is plenty for the baby to do and the attachments all have different feels to them which keeps the baby amused for a lot longer! My daughter likes the mirror especially and will have happily smile at her self for quite a while.

      *~* In Use *~*

The Travel Mobile simply attaches to the window in the car and just make sure the mobile hangs over the car seat but don't let it hang too low where it may irritate the baby.

In theory this product is a great idea but in practice it's a bit useless especially for car travelling. I found that within five minutes of the car moving it had fallen off the back window and was in the lap of my daughter. We tried to replace it once we had stopped at our destination and again after a few minutes it came off yet again. I have tried it on her Bumbo tray and it seems to like this sort of surface and doesn't come off but even though Hugs & Kisses say it is ideal for this sort of surface I find the Travel Mobile is just too large for a tray on the Bumbo and even a high chair.

Currently, in order not to waste money it is celotaped to the back window of my car which fortunately keeps it in place and stops it from falling off! This is a bit annoying as it doesn't really do its job on its own. May be it is my windows!

      *~* My Opinion *~*

I really like the idea of this product because we travel a lot of miles I want my daughter entertained and kept comfortable for the entire journey and so far this has kept her amused. I often hear her talking to herself and have noticed that she does try and reach up at the attachments. I like the fact that the mobile arm can be moved into various positions as this is useful when getting the child out of the car seat. I just feel that the fact I am having to use celotape to keep it in place is a bit odd as it should stick to the window by itself. However, I like the fact that it fits in with my baby on board sign (from the same range) and the material used is lovely and girly without being too childish.

      *~* Price & Availability *~*

The Hugs & Kisses Travel Mobile costs £14.99 and is available from Babies R Us both in store and online.

      *~* Recommendation? *~*

On the whole yes I would recommend it as it does provide some entertainment for car journeys for babies. However, just be prepared to get your role of Scotch Tape out to keep it securely on your car window!
