Talking Iggle Piggle From in The Night Garden
In The Night Garden is a TV show broadcast on CBeebies which is a channel for little children. Jack is just over eight months old now and it seems if we do have the TV on, this is the channel that is playing. So much so that I can't remember watching any of my own programmes for a long, long time (gone are the days of daytime Neighbours and Doctors!). Anyway In The Night Garden is shown on CBeebies twice daily, once at around 11 o clock in the morning and the other at around half 6 at night.
Iggle Piggle is one of the characters from this show and in my view the best one. The show itself has very simple and rather silly story lines that half the time even I am not sure what is going on let alone Jack. Jack is not quite at the stage where he is really into things like this although I myself have become quite attached to the show and all of its characters. I had already bought Jack an In The Night Garden Book, which he does squeal at when I read it to him. When I saw this character in Tesco I just couldn't resist buying it; more for myself I think than for Jack. The Upsy Daisy character was also available but she doesn't appeal to me as much as Iggle Piggle and I don't think she looks half as cute.
The soft toy itself is exactly as its character on the TV show is. Light blue in colour with a few bits of poking up red hair and of course his infamous red blanket! The toy is around 15cm in height, although will not stand up on its own and it makes a variety of different noises. Those noises are exactly the same from the show and they are rattles and squeaks along with Iggle Piggle's song...Yes my name is Iggle Piggle.... a rather catchy tune I found myself singing on a recent night out with the girls. Iggle Piggle is so soft and cuddly you just can't help but hold him close, the blanket fleece type material he is made out of is just perfect for soft baby skin to hold.
To make the noises you need to push Iggle Piggle's tummy where inside is a rather easy to operate button that allows even the slightest push to set of the noises. It took a little while but Jack can do this on his own now and his face really lights up when the Iggle Piggle song comes on (I think maybe because my face has lit up so much that he just likes to copy).
The box stated that the toy is suitable for ages 18months and older, but I really can't see why they have put this age range on it. Jack is able to press in the tummy to make the noises go and there are no small parts or anything that would make me think this toy should be graded anything above 6 months plus.
The toy comes with the batteries included (2AA) and these are safely tucked away inside the back of Iggle Piggle and fastened with Velcro which Jack has as yet not been able to get into, not for lack of trying though. I have had this soft toy a little while now, and the batteries are still going on strong.
Iggle Piggle's red blanket can be detached from his hand, as there is only a small tab of Velcro holding it in place. The toy can be cleaned with a damp cloth and the few times when I have done this it seemed to bring up the material as good as new, but I did put the blanket into the washing machine on a 30 degree wash and it acme out just fine as well.
When I first had Jack and I saw a lot of my friends buying toys that didn't really do much and were just an expensive novelty, I said to myself that I am only going to buy educational toys for Jack and make sure they have a lot to offer. One of my friends bought tumbling Tigger for her child and at thirty odd quid I just couldn't understand it as it would be slung in the toy box within weeks. But as soon as I saw this Iggle Piggle I knew I had to have it. Yes for me not just for Jack. Jack does enjoy it and loves to hold on to Iggle Piggle and make the noises sound out but I think possibly I love it a bit more!!!
I think it doesn't do much and it is not very educational at all but it is cute and fun, so for the £15 I paid I don't think it is that bad. Jack will probably love it more as he gets a little older and more into the programme so I see it as a sort of investment! (That's what I told my scrooge like other half anyway!). I think this is far more affordable novelty than say the Tumbling Tigger that I mentioned before and I am happy to have bought it.
9/10 for a non-educational but cute soft toy!
I hope this has been of some help to you, thanks for reading xxx
Summary: a nice cute toy
