Advantages: Helps with child's development, bright, cheerful, safe

Disadvantages: None

I have recently had the chance to 'play' with some great toys as part of some part time work that I have been doing. It has been great to pretend I'm a child again but it is also fun to look at the toys through an adult's eyes and be able to see why they would be both fun and educational to the children who will play with them.

One of the toys that I really liked was the John Crane Pintoy Stacking Hen designed by Djeco, which is suitable for children aged 18 months and above. I have taken a look on the Internet and found that it costs between £10 and £11 and is available on a variety of different sites.

As with all John Crane Toys it is made from wood to a very high standard and is carefully constructed so that there are no sharp edges and no chance of any splinters in little fingers.

This toy basically comprises a circular base with a central spindle onto which are arranged various wooden rings. The widest red one starts the process at the bottom ascending with each subsequent ring being slightly smaller than the previous one as the colours change through orange to the smallest yellow ring at the top.

The white hen's head is then placed on the top making a colourful cone shaped hen measuring 13.5cm by 15cm - yes I know the completed article doesn't actually look much like a hen but bear with me because it does help with the child's development.

The placing of the rings onto the spindle helps the child develop dexterity and it also helps with both colour and shape recognition and of course it is fun as well!

John Crane Limited who distributes the Pintoy brand is a leader in the manufacture and distribution of traditional wooden toys and they are celebrating 25 years of British ownership and great customer service this year.

So with a trusted pedigree like that and a great, safe fun toy which helps with a child's development - what more do you want?

I have just realised how short this review is but I have told you all you need to know so I make no apologies! LOL!

Summary: A great toy for little children
