Advantages: Lovely colours, well made

Disadvantages: Doesn't keep attention of my daughter, limited use

My daughter received a Lamaze gift set containing several items as part of her Christmas present from her grandparents, and one of the items in the set was this Clutch Cube which by itself usually retails around the £8 - £9 mark on the likes of amazon. I am a big fan of Lamaze, and all but one of the products that I have from them I have been extremely pleased with. My daughter loves the bright colours that are associated with products from Lamaze, and they do seem to last her for some time, rather than be a toy that only lasts a few months. I had watched a friends baby with a cube, different from this one, and it was toy that they played with a lot, and so I was pleased when my daughter received this.

This clutch cube has a variety of elements to it. Firstly, it has a large round hook meaning that you can attach it to a buggy or car seat to let baby play when out and about. My daughter also likes to chew on this ring as well, particularly at the moment when she is teething very badly.

Secondly, there are soft handles on various sides of this cube for baby to grab hold of and this should also help improve their motor skills as they grasp the handles. My daughter at almost six months has no problem now in grabbing these handles and bringing the toy up to her mouth or simply throwing it around, which she also does plenty of!

Thirdly, there is a rattle within this cube so when baby lifts it they should hear that rattle noise and it an be shaken as well. It also has two teething rings attached onto one of the soft handles which also clash together to make more noise. My daughter likes to make noise and so will turn when she hears this cube being pulled out of the toy box.

Fourthly the various faces on the cube are of different textures, that encourage baby to feel. My daughter is not at this stage yet of appreciating the different textures, but it is something that she will grow into. Some of the faces have patterned, some have pictures of animals like a monkey and lion, and there is also a face with a peek a boo mirror, where baby can lift the flap and look at themselves in the mirror. The disappointing thing about this is that the mirror is not quite clear, so I don't always think my daughter really realises that it is a mirror, as usually she enjoys looking at herself in the mirrors around our home.

THe other downside of this product, is that once it has been shaken and my daughter has chewed on either the handle or the teething rings, she gets bored with it very quickly and tosses it away. It certainly does not hold her attention for any length of time at all, compared to other toys that she will look at time and again for much longer periods of time.

As much as a love Lamaze products, and this is a lovely toy to look at and is certainly well made, it just doesn't hold the attention of my daughter. I am glad that she received it as a gift, as I don't think I would pay full price for this cube. THere are other toys that hold her attention better, and at her age, any toy that captures the attention for longer than a minute or two is worth its money when you are trying to entertain a teething restless baby!!

Summary: A lovely looking toy but limited in use
