Advantages: Colourful & cute. Practical for young babies.
Disadvantages: Socks fall off easily.
I first saw the Lamaze Gardenbug Wrist Rattles & Footfinder set (phew! What a mouthful!) reviewed in a pregnancy & baby magazine & thought they looked really practical & funky. So, after hunting around on the net, I purchased a set from Amazon.co.uk.
The set comprises 4 pieces - 2 wrist rattles & 2 foot rattles. The wrist rattles fasten around babies wrist via Velcro, & are adjustable for different sized wrists. The foot rattles are basically socks & just slip on as so. Each piece has a different 'bug' on it - the wrist rattles have 'beetles' & the foot rattles have flying insects. Each piece is made of different materials in bright, contrasting colours & patterns, to stimulate babies vision. The insects wings also 'crinkle', aswell as each piece containing a rattle, to develop auditory senses. The set is very well made of quality materials.
My one 'bug'-bear (groan...) with the set is that the 'socks' don't have a heel in them, & aren't very stretchy, so fall off very easily. It helps to put them on over a regular pair of socks, but a few kicks & they soon end up on the floor!
The whole set is very cute - the gardenbugs are lovely & colourful, & have happy, smily faces. The set is recommended from 0+, but I would say my son didn't start to appreciate the wrist rattles until a couple of months old, & the foot rattles from around 4 months old (they definitely help him to 'find' his feet!). I think it's a great little set, & would make a lovely gift as even the packaging is very attractive.
The RRP of this set is £12.99, but they can be found cheaper on the internet. Prices fluctuate wildly on Amazon - I paid around £5.75, but they are currently (@ July 09) £8.79.
