Lamaze Octivity Time
Advantages: Looks good
Disadvantages: Limited life span
Octivity is a small (12 X 4 inch) octopus that can currently (May 2012) be purchased on Amazon for £11.62. He is designed for babies from 6months onwards and is a fab little addition to a baby's nursery.
Octivity is made of soft plush brightly coloured material that looks great and his face is nice and cute to look at. He has 8 tentacles, each with a different feature that include a link ring, squeaker, spinning starfish, mirror, plastic crab, fluffy material, crinkly material, velour material with small ribbons, each of his tentacles can be lifted up.
He has ribbons on his head, that my baby would love to play with and when turned upside down he resembles a flower. He has a velour and Velcro link on the underneath of his body that allows you to attach him to the side of a cot, pushchair or car seat.
Octivitiy is designed to encourage your baby to grip and also develop their imagination, it also helps dexterity, especially the spinning starfish, as it twists round and makes a clicking noise. The different textures also help your baby to feel different things and also he is brightly coloured so that encourages your baby to identify colours as they get older. If you give him a big hug he will squeak, though this feature difficult too use when you are only 6 months old.
Octivity is easy to clean with a bit of soap and water, and is safe to play with; none of the pieces have fallen off or become frayed. My son started playing with this toy when he was about 5 months old, so when he could sit up, he enjoyed putting it in his mouth and lifting the flaps and scrunching the different textured tentacles, however, he soon got bored of it, so within a few months he had stopped playing with it altogether.
Overall I think this is a lovely looking toy that is interesting to play with, but overall it has had a very limited life span in our household, unlike some of the other Lamaze toys we have accumulated over time. I think that if this is given as a present then it is great, however, I would probably not have bought it myself. Therefore I give Octivity an average rating of 3 stars.
Summary: Ok toy with a limited life span
